People are very busy rewriting history here. This guy has been very poor since signing. A good performance against Haaland, who still scored, was impressive but that’s only a start. If he does that for the next 8 or 9 matches it might be time for a reappraisal. Shades of how Iwobi was viewed. Played a couple of good games then hailed a hero. He’s now reverted back to his usual self.
He had a very good season under AncellottI then Covid struck and he has struggled since from injury and form. He could be like a new signing. I only see positives on Him been back to be fair.

The slating of Godfrey just proves how fickle fans are.

Decent season under Ancelotti, at times very good. Had bad luck with injuries since and a few bad games and some written him off completely, absolutely pathetic.

He’s got all the tools to be decent, needs a bit of a run and luck with injuries. Him coming back now means we aren’t totally reliant on Myko at LB, though only in a back 4 obviously.

He had a beautiful assist to DCL when he played centrally btw.

He was good in that defensive formation Carlo played because of injuries. He was poorer whenever we tried to be more expansive. When I’ve seen him, he seems to like to venture forward with the ball (did he play midfield at times for Norwich and youth?) and playing a more defensive system gives him cover to do that.

I like him though and hopefully he develops well under Tarks and Coady and we have a decent CB sorted for next 7/8 years

Playing next to two dominant centre backs he can do well being the kind of spare/cover man marker of the three. His problem is in a back two. He’s too weak in the air and doesn’t dominate the box, it’s going to need a massive upward curve for him to make it in a back four and not be a liability. He’s not a young guy anymore either. See what he does for the rest of the season but at the moment would move him, Mina, Holgate and Keane on asap. Enough time waiting on players to come good and provide consistent level of performance.

This is my take on it too. He can look the part if he's next to two superior defensive partners, but needing to lead the line or take more responsibility in a back four he comes up short. I'd give him another 18 months though, especially since he's just come back from injury. Far bigger problems at this club than Benjamin God, for example Mr Keane, Mr Holgate, Mr Maupay, Master Davies, Master McNeil, etc.

Iwobi and gueye. Not going to slaughter them. But the other four had to run past them two to get at haaland.
I might be reading too much into it. But they were closest and did nothing.
Gueye is about 1/2 his size! Iwobi probably didn’t know what was going on he’s that dozy.
Challenge for me was similar to the one Allan was sent off for (only worse imo)
Nothing much in the challenge ultimately really, but the force and fact he was flying through the air out of control should have done for him.
Allan’s was from behind on a player moving away from him, so there was never any real change of a big impact, Smurfhead was going in on pretty stationary Myko and it could have been nasty.

Should've started over Mykolenko tonight. He's a young lad learning the game and will make mistakes but he's a presence in the game. Needs to be in the team every week.
