Benitez is a fat whopper

The majority of his pots, and the more prestigious ones, were won during his golden period with Valencia and the RS. After that there's been cups but the Copa Italia isn't an overly prestigious trophy and his Europa League win with Chelsea could arguably be put in the same bracket as Di Matteo's CL win in similar circumstances which you have dismissed as a fluke.

That golden period was between 2001 - 2005 so is between 15 and 20 years ago. When he was winning them who was pointing at managers who'd won stuff in 1981 and claiming that CV still made them good managers?

Lampard is getting a good reception at the moment as he's clearly making progress with the side. Benitez got a largely positive reception from the Goodison crowd when he came into the job. Blankets outside a house do not define the reaction of the entire fanbase. Ultimately though he delivered some terrible football and was taking the club backwards and and into the Championship.

It was always going to get hostile when things went badly but that's nothing to do with social media or the modern age. If a different former RS such as Souness or Houlier had come into the job instead of Royle or Moyes they too would have had a hard time if things went badly. That's the nature of a local rivalry.

Not sure what the cheeky zany stuff is. I can't think of any manager at Everton over the past few years that I would apply that to. And nobody is saying Benitez's shortcomings are his lack of those attributes.

Good post lad

Agree with some of what you have said but again I can't agree winning all those trophies was some kind of "fluke".

He's not in the level of class as your Ancelotti's, Mourinhos, Pep, SAF etc but if Benitez is a failure what does that make 90% of football managers in world football who never win anything whatsoever or at most a play off trophy or domestic cup in a farmer league ?

No doubt he's on the decline I said as much when he joined - if he wasn't he would have never come here I just dont buy this "finished" "dinosaur" nonsense as thats what 90% of our fans said about Moyes after he bombed it in Spain and Sunderland then he goes to 'ammers and gets 6th & 7th consecutively.

Thats modern day fans for you though - everything is black or white, good or bad, werld class or crap, boss or finished.

I really really want him to get another job in the Premier League now, just for the sheer entertainment value, as Foreverdullard92, tries to valiantly defend him, as he destroys that club too.

Why on earth would I care what he does at another club man ?

Although the mental gymnastics on here would be hilarious if he pulled a Moysie off and took a side into a solid top half team what would you say to tha ? lol

Without having to contend with Marcel Brands recruitment, the worst medical department in the league, Kenwrong & Coleman, Keane, Slomes, Holgate and Kenny I would say the chances of him doing that are higher than of him flopping tbh.

Lampard must pinch himself getting to work with Thelwell and proper players like Gana, Coady, Tarks and Onana.

To be entirely honest, I felt he did a really good job at Chelsea, He managed that team well. Since then I've not really been impressed. He just seems to rub people up the wrong way.
