Benitez is a fat whopper

Benitez CV speaks for itself mate, you can fluke a trophy here and there (Di Matteo, Martinez) but you can't fluke 1x Champions League, 1x La Liga, 1x Europa League, 1x FA Cup, 1x Copa Italia.

Its a fair point to make that his recent CV is average - but again so is Lampards amongst 90% of football managers yet why the difference in reception from the fans?

Its peak psychology - Boris Johnson was PM material not because he had a track record of success in politics but because he knew his away around a bacon butty.

Its populism / subconscious bias - the same way some players wont get much change oot of Zat and Iguana if they are older than 21 it also applies to managers be it age, personality, past clubs managed etc.

The mad thing is when you look at our history - was Kendall a cheeky chappy? did Catterick get us? was Moyes zaney? Would Royle have put up with Rodriguez calling in a sicky whenever he had a broken toenail?

The cream of the crop in our history wouldn't have stayed in a job past 6 months in the social media age as its all style over long term substance.
Are you still trying to defend the fat whopper ?

Give it a rest will ya, he’s a washed up, obese Iberian table server… and should never, ever have been employed by our club.

No he isn’t right, and no, we didn’t. We conceded twice in the first half, from a set piece and a counter attack but no we didn’t “get dominated”.
I don't want to get involved in your disagreement but, strange to relate, sat in the ground at 0-2, I didn't think we were out of it. Sometimes you don't deserve the scoreline and sometimes you do. If you reverse the match so that a comfortable 3-0 win ends up hanging on to an edgy 3-2 lead would you feel differently? Probably, you'd likely say how well we played and how, in the end, it was closer than it needed to be. So, it's all about perspective. Many think that, at 0-2, we must have been rubbish!! Whilst it's true we weren't great, neither were we terrible.

In Veronica Offside, Wesley Sneijder is clear about the worst trainer he has worked with during his career. "Rafel Benítez is the worst," laughed the former footballer.

Football is an emotional sport. In fact so much of life is driven by emotion, like it or not. Making the reason/rationality argument is okay, but in my mind it has to incorporate the likely fan response. I.e. reason dictates it would not be good based on emotional reactions.

Chuck in his past behavioural tendencies at previous clubs and we can all see why it was a poorly judged appointment. I didn't want to jump on him from the off and was pleased with a decent start, but it really turned sour very quickly.

May the lessons of this whole sorry episode never be forgotten, or by the power of @Daveysgingerlovechild, I will curse thee on Halloween. Or something.

Am I doing the third person thing right?
I got strong He-Man raising his sword vibes. So yes.

This is coming from a poster, who`s claimed in the not so recent past, that there were posters on here, in the employ of third parties, to further their agendas lol

The majority of his pots, and the more prestigious ones, were won during his golden period with Valencia and the RS. After that there's been cups but the Copa Italia isn't an overly prestigious trophy and his Europa League win with Chelsea could arguably be put in the same bracket as Di Matteo's CL win in similar circumstances which you have dismissed as a fluke.

That golden period was between 2001 - 2005 so is between 15 and 20 years ago. When he was winning them who was pointing at managers who'd won stuff in 1981 and claiming that CV still made them good managers?

Lampard is getting a good reception at the moment as he's clearly making progress with the side. Benitez got a largely positive reception from the Goodison crowd when he came into the job. Blankets outside a house do not define the reaction of the entire fanbase. Ultimately though he delivered some terrible football and was taking the club backwards and and into the Championship.

It was always going to get hostile when things went badly but that's nothing to do with social media or the modern age. If a different former RS such as Souness or Houlier had come into the job instead of Royle or Moyes they too would have had a hard time if things went badly. That's the nature of a local rivalry.

Not sure what the cheeky zany stuff is. I can't think of any manager at Everton over the past few years that I would apply that to. And nobody is saying Benitez's shortcomings are his lack of those attributes.
