Benitez is a fat whopper

Its a fair point to make that his recent CV is average - but again so is Lampards amongst 90% of football managers yet why the difference in reception from the fans?

Its peak psychology - Boris Johnson was PM material not because he had a track record of success in politics but because he knew his away around a bacon butty.

Its populism / subconscious bias - the same way some players wont get much change oot of Zat and Iguana if they are older than 21 it also applies to managers be it age, personality, past clubs managed etc.

The mad thing is when you look at our history - was Kendall a cheeky chappy? did Catterick get us? was Moyes zaney? Would Royle have put up with Rodriguez calling in a sicky whenever he had a broken toenail?

The cream of the crop in our history wouldn't have stayed in a job past 6 months in the social media age as its all style over long term substance.

Have posted about this before, Benitez's CV is very overrated and says more about the players he was lucky enough to work with rather than his tactical nouse.

Champions League - biggest fluke ever in the history of the competition, with the flukiest team ever. 6 mins aside they were utterly dominated in that final.

Two La Ligas and an EL - Will give them those but they were over 2 decades ago. 2 decades, it's a completely different game now.

An EL with Chelsea - With the same group (plus addition of Hazard) that won the CL the year before. Imagine they hadn't won it, would have been a total laughing stock.

A Coppa Italia - With an excellent Napoli side that overall really underachieved under him, they were miles better under Sarri.

An FA Cup - with prime Gerrard, Alonso, Reina, Carragher, against a bang-average West Ham team. On penalties, having fluked it yet again to even get to that point.



Look at his other accomplishments. Inside 6 months he destroyed the best Italian club side ever, a treble-winning Inter. Turned Napoli into an expensive mess and left them without CL football. At Real his reign is remembered as their worst period ever during the past 50 years. Did diddly squat at Newcastle despite what their whopper supporters say. Came here and became statistically our worst manager ever, whilst booting out our entire medical staff and some of our best players whilst handing out contracts to has-beens and/or donkeys.

He is a master self-promoter and not much else.

He managed to hoodwink the world into believing that winning the Championship with Newcastle United and a squad full of players on mid table Premier League wages, was an achievement. Honestly we used to take the piss out of RS and Geordie cultists for falling for his tripe, and now our own fans have swallowed the kool aid. He is a master at work in mass manipulation you have to give him that, proper wormtongue.

You could argue that with any manager mate - could Guardiola win a league title with Watford ?

People say about the CL final comeback but a wins a win - we came back to beat Palace last season after being dominated for a good portion of the game but thats fitba.
