Benitez is a fat whopper

Benitez CV speaks for itself mate, you can fluke a trophy here and there (Di Matteo, Martinez) but you can't fluke 1x Champions League, 1x La Liga, 1x Europa League, 1x FA Cup, 1x Copa Italia.

Its a fair point to make that his recent CV is average - but again so is Lampards amongst 90% of football managers yet why the difference in reception from the fans?

Becuase one of them obviously gives a toss and has been shown as willing to adapt his methods to get results out of a squad he presuamably wouldn't build himself.

The other, by contrast, was a divisive waster who alienated one long serving staff member to the extent of sueing the club, kept picking Rondon and couldn't be arsed even trying to save his job against Norwich. Also, nothing was ever his fault.

Its peak psychology - Boris Johnson was PM material not because he had a track record of success in politics but because he knew his away around a bacon butty.

Its populism / subconscious bias - the same way some players wont get much change oot of Zat and Iguana if they are older than 21 it also applies to managers be it age, personality, past clubs managed etc.

The mad thing is when you look at our history - was Kendall a cheeky chappy? did Catterick get us? was Moyes zaney? Would Royle have put up with Rodriguez calling in a sicky whenever he had a broken toenail?

The cream of the crop in our history wouldn't have stayed in a job past 6 months in the social media age as its all style over long term substance.

Someone call the FBI, they’ve lost one of their Mind Hunters.

That doesn't explain the polar opposite emotional reaction to Benitez and Lampards respective appointments prior to them given the job.

One had threatening banners put outside his family home, the other had spray paint gushing over him outside of Goodison.

Both had average CV's and had "failed" in their last few jobs so in my opinion this came down to the X Factor / Americanisation of football via modern day social media fans.

The same fans who would have chased Kendall and Catterick because they didnt wear north face or fist pump on the touchline.

Would they really have chased club legend Howard Kendall?

We know why there was opposition to Benitez. He'd been irrelavent as a manager for a decade, his best days were long behind him, he used to manage Liverpool and was known to be divisive wherever he went.

No worries here.

This is a clear PR move ahead of moving into another club.

Rumours swirling round about Leicester or Olympiacos, which makes me think, he could even be an outsider for the Forest job, if they part with Cooper.

I for one am all for him moanjng about us, because if he lands another PL job - after the mess he landed us in - I’ll take great satisfaction in him failing and getting relegated.
Would love him to get the Forest job just to see them relegated and explode.

Football is an emotional sport. In fact so much of life is driven by emotion, like it or not. Making the reason/rationality argument is okay, but in my mind it has to incorporate the likely fan response. I.e. reason dictates it would not be good based on emotional reactions.

Chuck in his past behavioural tendencies at previous clubs and we can all see why it was a poorly judged appointment. I didn't want to jump on him from the off and was pleased with a decent start, but it really turned sour very quickly.

May the lessons of this whole sorry episode never be forgotten, or by the power of @Daveysgingerlovechild, I will curse thee on Halloween. Or something.

Am I doing the third person thing right?

You need to start vaulting yourself too and tagging in a best mate, who due to the fact, that you`re a try hard dullard, ignores you.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

Keep it up big man and you'll do just fine with the birdies and bozos on ere. ?

Is football all about being loved though?

There are plenty of "nice fellas" in football management like Martinez and Silva - Benitez has achieved more in management than the pair of them will ever hope to achieve.

Like Alladyce his personality went against him with our fans from day one likewise Lampard has a lot of credit in the bank for fist pumping and wearing trabs with trousers.

Like politics football has become largely populism, style over substance.
