I don’t have the hate for the man that many seem to have but that interview is a bit much.

No manager on Earth would keep a PL job after the run of form he had with us. You see clubs like Southampton who’ll win 1 in 9 and then lose 1 in 9 and I get how their board can accept that evening out over the season but there wasn’t the merest hint of us finding any kind of form again. The good results we did have were early in the season, before he seemingly coached Carlo’s influence out of the players; even then I don’t recall us winning many, if any games convincingly.

He was a dicey appointment from a PR POV and an outright shocking one given the ultimate effect he had on the players. To have the Jerry Halls to come out and say it wasn’t his fault is something else.

Benitez has given his first full interview in a Spanish paper.

Unfortunately when we arrived, they had already spent a lot of money and the Fair Play rules in the Premier did not allow them to spend more. We only spent two million euros on five footballers. Even so, we worked with what was available, we got Gordon out of the academy, we made the most of Gray, Townsend, who before seemed to be finishing his career... We were making the most of the team, but we began to have injuries and misfortunes: a one who dropped a piece of furniture on his finger and the four footballers who made up our column were injured. That's where things get complicated...

when we left we were 6 points behind the tenth, with two games less, and 6 points above relegation. It was a bad position for what was expected, but consistent and realistic with the investment and injuries. From there, we talk about patience, trust, but people get nervous, social networks influence and a decision is made.

Once we left the club, Everton made five new signings, got all the players back and had a new manager, who had to assume his responsibility.

Is he actually serious with this bit?

We were crap in the last 4 months under him too and we didn’t win any games convincingly in that time either, but I agree with everything else.

Found it...

He also says he had no time to adjust the style of play... After not winning in 14 and playing exactly the same way every week.

Interestingly, he doesn't say anything even close to this. He says that your celebrity only gets you 3 months grace and then you have to produce the same results as everybody else.
He never said he didn't have time to adjust.

The problem with football is that it is media coverage and former players have a greater presence in the fans' minds. And that gives them a head start. But that advantage lasts three months. Then you have to prove more than just being a name. It's not about being young or famous. But it is a trend that has been around for years and is now being promoted by social networks: he is young, a former player, he is good. But it's not always like this. It's about being good, about constantly training yourself,

The worst managerial stats in the history of the club.

Nice to see he`s still taking no responsibility whatsoever for the relegation mess he left us in.

I wonder, which next big cloob he`ll have a go at ruining.

I have actually spoken to a few journalists through work placements and they've all said they've heard that he's wanted by a number of top clubs in Spain, Italy and England.

They basically said he's set for life thanks to Istanbul.

The comments below the line are hilarious. Mostly Madrid fans laughing at him for telling Modric not to use the outside of his foot and trying to teach Ronaldo how to take free kicks. There is even a Valencia fan who, while thanking Benítez for the trophies he won for them, mocks him for claiming to have a better recent record than Pellegrini. Another says his interviews are even more boring than his football. Yes he has been dining out on Istanbul for the last 17 years, but only across Stanley Park.
