Jeez. This thread is horrible.
Didn’t want benetez but he arrived and I thought he would probably be a steady if unexciting and unpopular appointment to carry us through to the new stadium.
I could understand the the thinking. I wasn’t quick to get on his back but it was clearly a poor appointment there was very little positives to look at in hindsight.

I honestly think the most frustrating thing is, he actually started off well.

Leeds, Brighton we played really well, and showed some excellent counter attacking football, which was nice on the eye in stages.

Some of the joke games started scrappy, but we showed signs of turning the corner.

Then he just gave up with 3 in the middle, and started his usual deflection game and I just couldn’t see why? As soon as he went two in the middle, we just suffered.

Awful manager, stubborn for his own good, and a massive ego.

Nevertheless thanks for Demarai Gray, who’s been amazing and for Townsend, who shows that wearing a blue shirt, even if you’re not very good, isn’t a free pass.

The only positive thing he did for the club was to identify weak areas that the board should have identified and sorted out sooner. But his bad work far outweighs this so [Poor language removed] him. Absolute Stain.

If the only reason that the manager didn't leave the club in the relegation zone is that other clubs were nearly on pace to be historically abject, the manager was a failure.

The club needed shaking up. He did that. In characteristic style, he moved too far too fast and created chaos.

It cost us one of our better players, who despite having flitted in and out of form would likely have fit well with the new manager's vision. This did permit some buys, so whether or not this was a bad thing will have to wait until after we see how the new signings integrate.

Reality is that it didn't work out. It probably was never going to work out given the history.

  • Brought Gordon into the first team
  • Bought Gray and Townsend - the best value signings for £1.7M there's ever been
  • Got shut of utter oxygen thieves like James and Digne
  • Got shut of the fraud Brands
  • Got shut of a medical team who prolonged rather than reduced injury absences
  • Showed that with the right attitude even an Everton team on the bones of its arse could face Chelsea away and get something
....not bad for 7 months.

But balanced against a certainty of going down. And losing Digne. And creating divisions everywhere.

Move on. He's gone.

Fortunately
