Bent rejects WHU - will AJ be next?

Great Dane

Player Valuation: £15m
Seeing that Darren Bent has rejected West Ham and the fact that they were willing to pay £17 m. I can't help thinking that Curbs and Egg-Head will come sniffing around AJ. Price is still rumoured to be £20 m. - which I would take in a heartbeat.

it's possible. 20 million for aj. interesting to see what moyes would do with an offer like that.

I would accept 20million although it would be a scarey thought as to what DM would actually spend it on,
Any replacement for AJ would come at the same cost surely.

Would selling AJ not signal negative vibes, i.e selling club not prepared to keep hold of their best players.

I hope he doesnt leave, I think this season he can eclipse everything he acheived last year.

I hope he doesn,t leave in this inflated market who would we replace him with.

shocking!
Why did he reject them? I'm sure wages is not an issue at all. I have a feeling he wants to join spurs instead.

I feel like the kid who pointed out that the emperor had no clothes, AJ is not a £20 mil player and to turn down an offer of that type would be bloody stupid. To say that it would make us into a selling club is equally stupid because every player has his price especially when the money on offer is twice the guys actual market valuation. Like GD says, I'd snap their hands off if that is the offer and, after losing out on Bent, any offer (if one has already been made) is likely to be enhanced.

I wouldnt want Yakubu, he is over weight lazy, has the odd good game against a top side but I fear he wont be consistantly good over the course of the season.

If he sells AJ for 20 and brings in Nugent for 7 then what kind of message does that send out to the rest of the league.
Making profit on players is good but it terms of competing in the Premier League you have to keep a hold of youre best players.

If AJ was sold then replacements would be overpriced as well, so we would not be better off. Nugent is not worth 7 million and unproven in the top flight. If West Ham were to bid then i would see how desperate they were! AJ for 20 million plus Ashton.

Could not agree more. I like AJ but as you say he's not a £20 m. striker.

I agree legend, i think ashton would add some much needed prescence up front which has been missing since the big man retired.

how about 15m plus ashton and sign bent for 15m from charlton.....

gotta love this silly season  (y)

dont understand anyone who wants to sell aj.

as has been pointed out replacements dont grow on tree's.

IMO a fully-fit aj, which we saw precious little of, is irreplaceable.

he was top scorer with 12 when you consider the genuine penalties he could have made/scored(only relevant if the cheating refs start giving them next season) and the fact he had a very interupted season with injuries, and rushing back when he maybe wasnt quite ready and consequently getting match fit whilst playing.

I reckon if he has an injury free season he can knock in 25 goals.
what difference would another 13 goals have made this season, or if he had even been given just half of his nailed on pens(at least 4).

I think we owe to ourselves to keep him for another season, before we start estimating his true worth especially as he's coming into his 'peak' years.

The only time he was fully fit, sharp and full of confidence was at the begining of the season, and his ratio was better than one-in-two for a while, I think.

I endorse Interia's post 100%, and would add the intangible team spirit issue. AJ is 100% happy to be a Blue, great team player by all accounts.

I would hate to see AJ go for any price whatsoever.
