nah not having that spiel about the headless chicken mate.
He WAS a headless chicken, I didnt point out his lack of positioning being one of his main liabilities cause I really didnt think it needed saying.
And The reason so many people said 'i told you he was [Poor language removed]', was because he WAS [Poor language removed], but yet still gets support for the 4/5 months he was half decent.
But anyone who crows about being right is a bit of a tosser, which I wouldnt do, personally because I'll be proved just as wrong on other things, we all are, its the very nature of us all.

Now I know he had good games, like the ones you mention.
I did say he can be effective in the right scenerio.
I didnt say he had 'no' redeeming features.
But he took us for a mug for 3 years, and took us for a mug when we really needed to close ranks on that fourth spot, he [Poor language removed] off for a better offer.
I dont necessarily expect anyone to turn down madrid, but still, if he was so confident of his class(and it wasnt really carsley they wanted) they'd have been back in for him in the summer, and I may have more fondness for the shyster, if he'd have put us first.

Plus I have seen him with a mullet, explain that!

fancy dress.

so we got a good season out of him when he played alongside li tie, then we got a really good half season out of him up to the january where we got 2.5 mill when he was out of contract in the summer.

what really burns my bacon is at the time most blues were saying we had sunk without gravs drive, but since arteta has risen to prominence the idea seems to be that we are ok because we effectivley swapped arteta for gravesen.

correct me if im wrong, but when did gravesen play on the right flank?

so he played well with tie, and was fabulous in a five with tim and cars, that explains when he was good, again i go back to the days of nyarko, gemmill, et al... and point out that gravesen was often out of position because he was doing the jobs they should have been doing as well as his own, or at least trying to.

Also, i wasnt singling you out for crowing about being right, i was refering to the hypocritical masses that wanted him to stay and help us reach fourth and the CL, then wash their hands of him and call him crap when fourth was secured.

crackers, mad as badgers the lot.

fans expect and revere player loyalty, yet show little faith and loyalty in the players, its beyond me, i cant understand it.

(and if grav took us for a mug for 3 years, please, lets hear the assessment on the likes of
xavier
bilic
collins
grant
farrelly
gemmill
ward
degn
williamson
pembridge
hughes
alexandersson
nyarko
gascoigne

linderoth

yep they took us for mugs too, bastards the lot 'em!!

I still think his positioning stinks because its been the same at madrid, and celtic.
There may or may not be reasons/excuses for this.

We all get a general impression of somebody over time.
Without absorbing exact statistics, you just know through the experience of following a team over the full length of a season, which players you felt done well, and which players you thought were rubbish.

Over his time here some people think he was good 'un, some dont.
Its down to personal interpretation, and the context of what you expect/would like.
I'm not saying if you think he's great, your easily pleased or anything like that.
Its like ive said, suits, I dont wanna split hairs over Tommy Grav, the debates been done death.
But when you say the hypocritical masses, there will always be an extreme section, who see everything in black and white, and are very predictable in their responses, and u-turns.
But there was, and still ARE balanced arguments for why we are better off without grav.

I was annoyed when he left, because I still felt he 'owed' us.
But I still said he was [Poor language removed] when asked.
I wasnt being hypercritical.
Because I still feel in most situations he was a liability, however we had a found a scenerio that was paying dividends, and he had a job that he was'nt [Poor language removed] at.

so to clarify,
-if a random stranger said to me that their team was about to buy tommy grav, my response would be........good luck mate he's [Poor language removed], more trouble than he's worth!

-But if he specified 'what do you think of tommy grav, were going to play five across the middle, get more disciplind players to the hard work, and let him try and feed some balls for the forwards, and get forward a bit.' I would say.....he'll do a good job for you there, he'll get you a good few assists, couple of goals maybe and the crowd will love him!

and it wasnt fancy dress, he used to have a mullet.
and for that there is no defence!!

Of course we have no say in the final outcome, but my opinion is that we would be weaker, and its a very dangerous, negative, backwards step..
I do think its risky to say 'who's to say we wont improve if we sell our better players though'.
Whilst I can see where your coming from to a degree, even you would say it would be a wrong motto for the club.

just one other thing too.......gravesen was , is, and always will be , a complete bag 'o [Poor language removed].(y)

And whilst rooney isnt, he pretty much was for large parts of his last season with us.;)

You seems to say we will get weaker if we sell. To me that's not totally true, we will only get weaker if we sell without a replacement. We sold our best playmaker(gravesen) and got ourselves a better one(arteta). Why can't we do it again? And if we decides to sell, no better time than now as we will have enough time to seek replacement.

Bear in mind we are not letting him go via some stupid 5 million release clause, we are talking about 20 million, or maybe even more. I agree with you that whoever we brought in might not bed in well, but there's also great example of players coming in and setting the league alight in their first season. Van Nisteroy, Klinsman, and the latest example, Berbetov. Which cost half the price of what AJ is valued now. I'll be happy if we can get 2 quality striker as replacement by selling AJ.

I can see where your coming from, and I can't conclusively argue with a lot of what youve said.
I guess I just find myself in the situation, where I'm happy with what we have as far as strikers, I, as a fan could do without the stress of trying to identify replacements and tie them down before someone else throws money at them.
Maybe if a few more of the deals like emre, sissoko, parker, bellemy(regardless of how then went on to do)had not fallen through so spectacularly, I would be more comfortable.
But as was proved on those occasions its difficult to sell the club to someone who gets an offer of more money elsewhere.
Of course I think we've consolidated a little in the eyes of most neutrals, and year on year are looking a more attreactive a propositition, and we have european football, so who knows......

But we still need to buy a lot of players as it is, to bolster the squad for europe.
And with precious little obvious activity so far,do you really want to have the burden of finding another top-class striker as well?

Make sense to me.

I guess the lack of activities is driving all of us to the edge!

liked his freekick at villa, courtesy of a stubbs assist (although he never touched the ball)

and it was a quality strike against palace.

i liked and still like grav, a player that was at times a beacon of light, in a sea of grim [Poor language removed].

just thinking back, we shouldnt have let don go, nor grav, we should have got more for dacourt, we should have got every penny of the materazzi fee at the time and should be pursuing it with interest % right now, barmby and xavier were both [Poor language removed] tailor made for the vermin, who else has there been of relative note leaving apart from "once a blue"?

jeffers. couldnt stop him going, he's paying for it now, ha.
ball. I think he left too soon, but we got decent money.
dunne. A decent solid prem class centre half, see above.
mccann. Good if unspectacular midfielder.

One of the players I wish had stayed longer, bit controversial, but gary speed.
It would have maybe been interesting to have him and grav together for a few seasons.
