What?! Work rate on the defensive side of the ball is one thing that is absolutely certain about Bernard. I assume he didn’t start because we needed some extra height to deal with VVD and company on corners. Bernard is similar to Pienaar on the defensive side.Worth noting that when he came on it was as a number 10 and Richarlison was put on the right.
To me I think that said that Carlo doesn’t trust Bernard to do the defensive side required of his wide men.
If I was on a wind-up I would.I'm not considering 'the depressed market' idea because nobody actually knows whats going to happen at the minute do they.
We paid 30 million for Pickford as an unknown kid.
Whether you rate him or not, he is now Englands number 1 and has a much higher profile than he did when we bought him.
You think selling a player for less than you bought him for when he hasnt even reached his peak yet is a good deal??
Looks like you're on the wind-up mate. Please tell me this is a windup?
30 million for the most error prone keeper in my 50 years of watching the club.
30 million in a market that will be depressed for a couple pf years at least?
What.
Running around a lot is not necessarily being good on the defensive side. He doesn’t keep shape and likes to drift. He’s also easily brushed offWhat?! He is not caught out of position any more than our other wingers and he is a better tackler than Iwobi (who isn’t a strong defender btw). He is probably the best defensive wing in the side bar Richarlison.Running around a lot is not necessarily being good on the defensive side. He doesn’t keep shape and likes to drift. Carlo also shifted Richarlison to the wing seemingly because he didn't want to rely on Bernard at the end.He is not caught out of position any more than our other wingers and he is a better tackler than Iwobi (who isn’t a strong defender btw). Bernard being a midget is the main reason I can see him getting phased out by Carlo. He is a super negative on set pieces. He is also older than Iwobi and hasn’t come in on a price tag, so he is expendable. I don’t think it has to do much with Bernard on the defensive side so much as he isn’t the type Carlo is looking for.
Iwobi has talent, but for me, it certainly isn’t in his current role on the wing. He is better off anywhere else along the frontline.
Honestly, after having Iwobi and Gordon essentially play as wing backs for the entire time they were out there Sunday, I think it would be very tough to drop either for a game where they will presumably see the ball up the field.Think you're right for the most part there, think there is a very good chance we will see Bernard move on in the summer. Big wages, not vital to the team despite being at least as good as anyone else we have in the wide positions, and will fetch a decent fee which will be entirely profit as far as FFP is concerned.
We shall see though, don't think the team will be too different against Norwich but could make the case for either Iwobi or Gordon dropping out for Bernard on Wednesday.
