Typical Bernard performance for
Me. Flatters to deceive. Few nice touches and little balls but as a whole we lacked any creativity and quality in the final third. Isn’t that what Bernard is supposed to improve? He drifts in and out of games and when the chance falls to him to play that ball at the right time, he doesn’t. But plenty of nice touches when it doesn’t matter....

I completely agree. He's nice to watch (the reverse ball down the line for Digne was superb), but the feller gets near the 18 yard box and his head goes. He takes a shot on as a very last resort...which usually end up as daisy cutter back passes to the GK.

People are a bit too obsessed with raw stats. It’s why we have so many that couldn’t stand Gana. He is far from the problem. That central midfield is where we really need to strengthen. Bernard plays both sides of the ball and is our top guy in the buildup play.

Hes a very good squad player - but if we are to seriously trouble the top 6 or even 4 we need a starting wide player who chips in with more goals/assists/chances.

Definitely good enough as a squad player and for now with pressing concerns elswhere but for me eventually we should look to upgrade.

As a firm stats believer I'd like to say that I will always love and support Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Midfield is an issue but so are the wingers/attacking midfielders. Bernard had plenty of ball in good spaces and didn't really come up with very much in the final third. Iwobi and him are the two guys who have the ability to build up play but one needs to take the next step and create on their own a bit. It's a bit too much on the fullbacks at the moment.

You can’t expect that kind of overhaul overnight though. It’s a bit too early to make predictions either way with the new management and such

Bernard always seems to get hurt at crucial times for me, and that is one of my worries with him. He started the season off very well with two goals, got hurt, came back and started slow, started playing well again and got hurt. We already have enough injury problems as it is so we don’t need him to keep trying to regain form. Stay healthy and work from there.

The two goals have hid the fact that he still isn't getting nearly enough shots away still. He's up to 6 on the season after today. His shots per 90 minutes is only slightly better than Mason Holgate's. That is a troubling sign with regards to him continuing to find the net.

I think today was form for him. Maybe there's another level Carlo's presumably better system can unlock but we are 18 months into him being here and performances like today's have been the high water marks. We can't drop him right now so he will have a few more chances but we desperately need some final third effectiveness from him to add to his admittedly good ability to be a part of the build up.

Let me stop you right there. Those were two game winning goals that were created out of thin air. Which highlights the fundamental problem of this team under Silva. We relied way too much on individual effort and not nearly enough on creativity and buildup. It remains to be seen whether Bernard is in Ancelotti’s first XI every game. But he is far removed from our problems.

Agree with the above. I’m not a big stats fan, but assists and goals are the two which matter and Bernard is severely lacking in these. As a team we struggle to create many chances full stop even when we dominate the ball and that’s where Bernard has to step up. He’s 27 now I think? I can’t see him suddenly becoming this force and using that obvious ability with a football to good enough effect at premier league level. How much do you think we could sell him for and what sort of team comes in for him? Usually a sign on how good a player is...

The West Ham goal was great. The Watford goal went through the legs of one defender, deflected off another and wrong footed the keeper. If he was shooting 3 times a game something like that would be still lucky, but more a product of getting shots in. As it is it is just straight up good fortune.

I see one of our biggest problems as our creativity so all the so-called creative players who aren't producing are very much a part of that problem.

I'd be stunned if any of the "Big 6" wanted him. I don't think he'd start for Leicester or Wolves. We might be able to get some bottom half team to spend 10-15m on him. I wouldn't really bother trying to sell him tbh. Just keep him around as depth for now.

All of those players have managed to produce less than Bernard whilst he actually does the hard work on both sides of the ball which is sad.
