Best city in the world?

I have often hated Southern California because there is only one season, but the last time I visited I really enjoyed the mild weather. Old age, I guess. So San Diego would easily fit this criteria. But in general the problem with this question is unless you've lived there, it's based on a small sample size, frequently from vacation/holiday, so it's largely ignoring the negatives. Despite my affection for Texas, and how easy I would find it to live there, I can hardly pick one location over the rest because I know their faults well enough. So next on the list for me, after San Diego, would be Montreal, which I've only visited in Summer (although it was lovely).

I feel very fortunate to have visited many amazing cities. Berlin and Copenhagen alway stand out in my mind, but Kyoto’s my number one. There seemed to be so many magical things to see and it felt quite peaceful, despite all of the tourists.

I’d happily live there because of the amazing food. There’s a bit of a myth with Japan that it’s really expensive. Quality food can be dirt cheap over there.

I was in San Diego for part of my honeymoon last summer, its was great there, lovely beaches, loads of great bars and restaurants, great weather and the people were all sound with us, night and day to the hellhole that LA was on our next stop.

Japan messed with my head much more than I expected, might have helped if I could read/speak the language, but without a doubt Kyoto >>> Tokyo, it's not even close. My sister lived in Sendai and I think that is still her favorite place, but I will see what she remembers about Japan.

I'm torn between Mexico City and Tokyo. Only choosing from cities I've been to, and from those I feel I could live and work happily in.

Of course, both of these options also have their problems, namely crime in Mexico in general and the sheer scale of Tokyo and how long it can take to get from A to B. That said, having been to Mexico City about four times, I've never had any scary encounters with any bad hombres.

Both countries have amazing food and I've found the people to be friendly in both. Mexico and Japan as countries are extremely interesting to me, as are their respective languages.

Tokyo is substantially more expensive than Mexico City, so for housing you generally get a lot less bang for your buck there, but salaries will likely reflect this.

In terms of women, I think Mexico edges out Japan: I like how independent and fiery Mexican women can be, and Latin women have a nice look for me. I do have a mate living in Tokyo who has a stonkingly beautiful wife, however.

Tokyo is a lot more technologically advanced than Mexico City, so that is another plus point.

I'm going for Tokyo. Crime is non-existent, people are respectful, they have four seasons, travel to other interesting Asian countries is quite easy, and the food and drink is exquisite. Plus if you want to escape the big city you can just jump on the bullet train and be the other side of the country by the afternoon.
