Best Everton Captain?

In my time I could say Waggy but I arrived on this scene (never a true word used) at the tail end of his time.

So it has to be Jags, although some didn't like him because he wasn't a raging lunatic like Keane.

Brian Labone by a country mile.

I loved Lyons, Ratcliffe and I love Seamus.

But the high point of my visits to Goodison (apart from Bayern) was when the last of the great Corinthians came up to me in Goodison Road before a match and asked if he could be of assistance.

I muttered "Mr Labone???" He duly accompanied me to reception where he asked the lad behind the desk to take my Everton One shopping and keep it safe for me until after the match. I was in a daze.

Imagine that happening at any other EPL club.

God bless Labby.

Some special players there, but speaking for most of the ‘ Over the hill mob‘, I think, Peter Farrell was not only a very good player but the ideal captain and a gentleman of the highest order, skipper of the 1954 promotion winning team.

In my Avatar. I knew Peter who lived near where I grew up. Far too young to remember him playing, but I loved listening to his stories of playing for Rovers, Everton and Ireland. He played in the 78,299 Derby and scored in Ireland's historic 2-0 defeat of England at Goodison.

A thorough gentleman and an Everton fan until the end.

God bless Peter.

Another shout for Mick Lyons.

This goal against Leeds summed up his bravery and belief in Everton.

Won 3-2 and Lyons put his head where no one would dare.
Lyons for me was our most passionate Captain....he was like an ardent fan playing for the team he loves and it shown. Not saying he was the best captain as that accolade surely must go the Labone or Ratters but it felt like it meant more to Lyons. Was gutted for him that he missed out on glory by just a year or two either way

A good man as well as a good player like his fellow Irishman and Blue, Tommy Eglington, they came from Dublin together and played in the English first, second and third divisions together as well as Ireland and Eire together, players who you could approach and talk to coming home, on the train from London and other cities, proud Evertonians together, players and supporters. These days some players have minders to keep supporters from approaching them!!
