Best Everton Captain?

In my Avatar. I knew Peter who lived near where I grew up. Far too young to remember him playing, but I loved listening to his stories of playing for Rovers, Everton and Ireland. He played in the 78,299 Derby and scored in Ireland's historic 2-0 defeat of England at Goodison.

A thorough gentleman and an Everton fan until the end.

God bless Peter.
My dad always raves about Farrell and Eglington. He always said that Farrell was a great captain, hard but fair. He still says that Eggo was the fastest player he has ever seen play for us.

For some reason Eggo was not picked for the historic Goodison match against England. There was no manager until 1969, so the team was picked by a panel of selectors.
I am sorry I never asked Peter why Eggo was dropped. There were two Shamrock Rovers players, seven First Division, and two Second Division.

Dave Watson was immense in the 94/95 season
With all this Benitez stuff I was thinking about the welcome Waggy got and how he even got booed on occasion for having the temerity to replace mountfield . Obviously he’d also been on he books at the RS as well .

I’m in no way comparing an Everton legend with our new manager , shudders, but how it starts isn’t always how it ends I suppose is all I’m pondering .

Might be an age thing but my favourite Everton era is the mid to late 70s.

Roger Kenyon is my second favourite EFC skipper.

But my all time favourite is Mr. Everton himself.

The one and only Mick Lyons :)

And that diving header he scored versus Leeds circa 1974 is my favourite ever Everton goal ;)

Ya beat me to it!
Fine memories.

Of the skippers I've seen play for us.

Kev the rat
Watson
Speed

Wish we had someone like those in our team now, my blood pressure isn't good when I see Sigfraud wearing the armband!

Dave Watson. He was captain of some of the worst teams of recent times. Even though he was coming to the end of his career he was always one of the best performers.

Reading about that game Eggo was replaced by a Shamrock Rovers player Tommy O’Connor who laid on the second goal for Peter Farrell, maybe O’Connor was picked, along with Goodwin the goalkeeper from Shamrock Rovers, because they played in the Irish league and to give a boost to the Irish supporters in Ireland.
