Best Rhyming Couplet in a Song

Des'ree - Life

I'm afraid of the dark
'Specially when I'm in a park
And there's no one else around
Ooh, I get the shivers
I don't want to see a ghost
It's a sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
And watch the evening news

I think this is a pretty good attempt at song writing for an 8 year old. Oh wait, she was a 30 year old making her 3rd album nvm then.

She rurpassed it in the very next verse:-

I'm a superstitious girl
I'm theworst in the world
I never walk under ladders
I keep a rabbit's tail.

In desperation to get it to rhyme a rabbit tail and not a rabbit foot wards off her demons.

Is it any wonder we don't hear of her anymore.🙂

Every day a little sadder
A little madder
Someone get me a ladder

Emerson Lake and Palmer Still...You Turn Me On

Because when I'm considering my slow decline into misery and insanity I find a ladder to be pretty much indispensable.

I always feel sad when I hear these lines in Vincent by Don McLean. Always makes me think of the millions that suffer with mental health issues.

“Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now”

Then later in the song

“For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night
You took your life, as lovers often do
But I could've told you, Vincent
This world was never meant for
One as beautiful as you”

You aren’t alone, talk to somebody. Anybody.

On the same theme, this from Ralph McTell’s streets of London has a sadness to it.

Have you seen the old man
Outside the seaman's mission?
Memory fading with
The medal ribbons that he wears
In our winter city
The rain cries a little pity
For one more forgotten hero
And a world that doesn't care

Honey if the truth hurts don't look it might go away
It's easy to pretend that life is a rosy bouquet
I don't need a platter
I'll take it straight from the shelf
Give it to me raw
I'll take it home and cook it myself
