the dobson king rioch thomas mckenzie latchford team ,was by far the best footballing team not to win the leauge , change big woody for big nev and we would of won it ,that was a pleasure to watch that team pure football

As a 40 something fan I'm inclined to agree.

The 85/86 side, which won nothing, was better than the title winning sides either side of it, imo. The league table lied that season.

We lost the double that season because of the injury to Nev Southall, We actually played better football the previous season but Kendall was right to buy Lineker , Andy Gray had his swansong in 1985 and it was unlikely he'd reproduce that form again. We needed to buy again at the end of that season(Beardsley?) and keep Lineker, show the players that we intended to stay at the top , maybe Steven and Stevens would have stayed ?

PSV were a big contributors to the Dutch side that won the Euro 88.

Porto was an emerging club in Europe in those days. Had lost a Cup Winners Cup Final to Juventus a couple of years earlier. And they had half the portuguese team from the Euro 84. Plus they added a young and diabolic Futre, a genius called Madjer and a supersub named Juary. But they had to sell, after that.

Still, considering what other english sides did in that begining of the decade, I think Everton would have had a shot at it. No doubt.
