2024/25 Beto

Said before; for his size, you think he is a targetman. He isn't.
As we saw today, he needs the ball played into the channels to be effective and he is good on 1v 1 siruations.
More Darren Bent than Duncan Fergeson.
19 games 7 goals, in all completions
Not the finished article by any means but David Moyes, will play to his strengths and will get the best out of him.
Delighted for him, likable lad and he is playing his part..
Much like Lukaku.
Poor in the air for his size but give him balls to run onto and he's a beast.

I'm still laughing at Lindstrom slapping him on his head for the first goal and then everyone doing it on the second. Moyes would have been at it if he got his hatty

As always, I won’t make up my mind after one game because I’m not 7 years old. If we continue being able to get the most out of Beto by playing through balls then I will happily come back and say I was wrong. If it turns out we just played a crap team and made the most of it I wont, but more to the point neither will you, because you’ll just pretend you were right anyway. Your first thought after a 4-0 home win being to quote my post on here says a lot, I was still celebrating at the ground while you were digging up posts on here to ‘prove’ yourself right. Only one of us should be embarrassed, and it’s not me.

When he signed & after a few games many posters were saying he needed the ball ahead of him.

Hes got that now and hes scoring.

The Italian sides after him, they want him because of his skillset. They could have bid for a non goalscoring, injury prone, hold up player...but they didnt.

Just thinking he would score about 40 a season if we kept James Rodriguez

I'm imagining DCL for the first goal taking a touch outside on his right foot, turning and killing the chance and for the 2nd goal, trying to take an extra touch across the keeper and it being either too heavy or putting the finish straight at him. Beto stayed composed and thankfully he seems to grasp the concept of needing as few touches as possible when you're up front
Yep, agree. The PL is unforgiving of strikers who want that one touch too many. Time and space is at a premium level inasmuch as a player takes his opportunity without embellishment or he loses that opportunity because defenders will shut it down very quickly. I think part of DCL's issue is (was?) one of confidence in that he tries to set himself up to score rather than rely on his instinct to score.

Beto has always had that in his locker but due to minimal playing time opportunities under Dyche, the way he was played - usually subbed on late in a game when we needed goals - and his desire to score when he did get onto the pitch, with that pressure he was maybe guilty of trying too hard. Perhaps with Moyes input and going off yesterday's performance we may now begin to see the goalscorer we always hoped he would be and his confidence and of those around him will begin to blossom.

We are no longer going into games wanting to avoid defeat at all costs but now wanting to win. Big difference but the expectancy has changed since Moyes returned.

Delighted for him, likable lad and he is playing his part..

This. Dont care how awkward he looks or if he misses chances. He'll scare most defenders with his size and pace. He'll score enough goals to warrant his place imo. No doubt he'll get shackled by better teams but i'll accept that if he's willing and hungry which he clearly looks.
Those were two good finishes yest despite what some bitter bizare calvert lewin fan boys post. No idea why thats a thing.

I never get why it's got to be one or the other for many fans.

I want them both to be good!

We all want that mate.

I guess the majority on here have responded to Beto being wrote off by a horrid manager ( & some fans ) in favour of DCL going 18 games without a goal and generally looking not arsed.

I'd love to see 3 or 4 CF's all chomping at the bit and all given a fair crack at their own individual strengths.
We've not had competition for that position for a very long time.

Honestly, today I saw Myko sprint down the touchline and bang in a banger of a cross and he did it more than once.

I think we need to start again with every player.

They are getting coached, motivated and can all now clearly play football.
Really looking forward to seeing how McNeil will develop under Moyes.

Delighted for Beto today, clearly loves the place.

Not putting him in the same bracket but Lukaku was useless unless he got a pass to run on to, then he was deadly.p,

To be fair DCL has looked much better too.

Yeah yesterday showed how important it is to have options as Garner and Beto probably wouldn't have even started yesterday if it wasn't for injuries.
