2024/25 Beto

As limited as Beto is, I don't think think we can sell him now unless we bring in a centre forward and a back up. Letting him go and just bringing in one striker leaves us an injury away from playing an under 21 player or Keane as a striker. Really need to keep Beto as back up until the summer and bring in a first choice this week. Perhaps the lad at Rangers is worth a punt.

Surely Moyes can -and should be- doing both? Coach the players for a few hours each day, then after training spend his time identifying one or two key players that are likely to be available and will improve the team how and where he wants.

There's not much time left in the transfer window so I'd like to think he's been investing a lot of hours into it since he got here, because leaving it entirely to the same people who brought us Beto and Maupay and Harrison and Danjuma and Broja to get it right is a gamble that could backfire big on Moyes.

Think Moyes has had worse strikers he actually brought into our club to work with.

Straq attack and Jo spring to mind.

He will obviously stay if we can’t bring a first choice replacement striker in. And even if we do that we would still need him as backup.

It wouldn’t be the worst thing ever.

Reckon he’d contribute more goals than DCL would if we can create the chances for him.

people diss DCL and would prefer beto playing even though he goes even longer without scoring, say hes never had a run of games ( even though hes been here 18 months and dom has been injured for about 3 quarters of that and beto was playing) and doesnt really add much to our attacking play and would rather wrestle the other players than try to play. Ive hoped beto came good but sadly he hasnt so far
How does Beto go longer without scoring and how can you argue he has had a run of games?

DCL has had 19 starts this season, Beto has had 1! Last season DCL had 26 starts, Beto had 9.

Lewin went 18 games last season without scoring, the majority of them games he started and played well over 70 mins, and this season he's gone 16 games without a goal, again starting nearly all of them games and playing over 70 mins.

Last season the longest Beto went was 11 games and that was being a sub for nearly all of it, getting 10-20 mins most of the time. He's now not scored for 9 PL games but been given 15 mins here and there.

Dyche managed it very badly, persisting with Lewin when he was offering no goal threat game after game. He's obviously a far better hold up striker than Beto but when a Striker is providing no goals you have to try something different. We saw on Saturday that Beto, whilst needing to improve drastically (which may come from being given a run of starts) can cause problems for the opposition leading to goals for us. Helped win us the penalty and also scored against Peterborough with a goal that DCL would have hit straight at the keeper.

You wouldn't think the fella has his own chant that gets sang every time he plays reading in here.

Lets get behind him Saturday. See what Moyes can do with him. Moyes was gold at making folk heroes out of limited players. Lets see can he become the folk hero we want him to be.
