2024/25 Beto

Beto flatters to decieve for me. Even with his goals scored recently he shot through the keeper and managed to get lucky.

Last night he gave the ball away too easily and his technical ability is not of premier league standard. He just doesn’t look comfy on the ball for me.

Last night too he shot way too close to the keeper and this time he didn’t get lucky. It won’t stay like this I don’t think Moyes will be fooled, a proper striker will be high on Moyes’ must have list.

Yes it’s great that Betos goals have helped us on this great run, but honestly …..is he the answer. I think not. We all know what a proper centre forward is and Beto is a good stop gap. And unless he can somehow reinvent himself as a more clinical finisher, sadly, that’s all he’ll be.

Beto's in credit. He's been slotting for fun, so he's allowed a bad night. The difference with DCL is he doesn't slot for fun - at all anymore. So when he misses similar chances, there is no recent history of clinical finishing when put through to fall back on.

Obviously, Beto needs to bounce back now. Whether he does or doesn't will determine whether he has a genuine future here beyond the summer or whether he joins DCL on the scrapheap.

The difference is I was surprised that Beto didn’t score, whereas I would’ve been surprised if DCL had.

He was still getting away from his defender and getting into one on ones with the keeper.
If he keeps on doing that, the goals will continue.

He’s not going to score every game.
Yeah this.

The first chance I think he messed up but the other two he did well, controlled the ball perfectly, got away from his defender and they were just two very good saves from the keeper, it happens.

I thought both 1st half chances we fluffed, they were straight at the GK, the first one why did he not go round the GK.
For one of those in the 1st half he was brought down, but got straight back up with only one think on his mind and it wasn`t I`ll take a free kick which I liked. When he got back on the ball he had to build up his momentum again and that might have given the keeper the chance he needed to close in on him.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but the game would have been a completely different one had he not got back up. Denying a clear goal scoring opportunity and its a red card.
