Big Friedkin Rebuild

Sona

Player Valuation: £8m
Provided Dyche keeps us in the Premier League, the summer of 2025 promises to be a huge rebuilding process for the new owners.

We have the following 10 players out of contract in the summer:

Doucoure £120k
Calvert-Lewin £100k
Keane £80k
Gueye £80k
Holgate £70k
Coleman £55k
Maupay £50k
Young £40k
Begovic £9k
Virginia £8k
TOTAL: £612k / week
(All salaries are approximate and averaged out from various sources across the web; please don’t take as gospel)

We also have 4 players returning to their parent clubs at the end of their loans:

Broja
Harrison
Lindstrøm
Mangala

That’s a huge turnover of 14 players, but also provides some much needed finance for a rebuild.

Based on the above, we will only have the following 12 senior players:

Pickford
Patterson
Mykolenko
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
O’Brien
Iroegbunam
Garner
McNeil
Ndiaye
Beto
Chermiti

Priority signings would then have to be:
• Starting RB
• Starting LB
• Starting CM
• Starting RW
• Starting CF

We’d also need a backup goalkeeper, whilst perhaps looking to promote Armstrong and a couple of youth team players to the first team squad.

Personally, I don’t feel that Patterson, Mykolenko, Beto are good enough, but could serve as backup until January / Summer 2026, otherwise it would leave us too much to do in one summer.

Discussion:
1. How much of the above (if any) do you think we will be able to get done this coming January?
2. Do we keep any of the contract expiry players (maybe on a 1-year extension on reduced terms)?
3. Do we turn any of the loan players into permanent signings?
4. Are there any other starting eleven positions that I’ve missed from the priority signings?

We f'ed the finances so hard, don't expect miracles.

I'm still trying to work out whose weekly salary is more hilariously outrageous: Marcus Rashford on 365k a week or Abdoulaye Doucoure on 120k...
Doucoure's goals are a big reason why we are still a premier league club and so for that alone he is worth the salary we have been paying him...now it is clear that he is nowhere near the level needed going forward and glad his contract is coming to an end, more so this season as it starts to really struggle. Rashford's contributions on the other hand are not really reflecting of his ridiculous wages. United would be in the same place with or without him now and in recent times.

Based on the 12 senior players we still have on the books next year, we’d only be able to field a team which looks something like this:

3-5-2
GK: Pickford
RCB: Tarkowski
CB: O’Brien
LCB: Branthwaite
RWB: Patterson
LWB: Mykolenko
CM: Garner
CM: Iroegbunam
AM: Ndiaye
ST: Beto
ST: Chermiti

Or…

4-4-2
GK: Pickford
RB: Patterson
LB: Mykolenko
CB: Tarkowski
CB: Branthwaite
CM: Garner
CM: Iroegbunam
RW: McNeil
LW: Ndiaye
ST: Beto
ST: Chermiti

Both truly frightening propositions, but not a million miles away with some smart additions in those “priority” areas.

Probably need £200m of investment before start of next season. Incredibly interested in seeing how on earth they manage that. A good chunk of that needs to be invested next month given our precarious position in the league.

I think Gueye is looking good enough to offer a further year, but surely the likes of Coleman and Young need to be off. I'd go back in for Mangala for a year, not going to get better on loan.

Gueye for a year but hopefully reduce the terms (maybe £50k / week)? However, he turned 35 in September so he might hold out for one last big contract in Saudi or a 2-year contract from a promoted club. I agree though, he’s been good enough to hold onto for an extra year.

Young will be FORTY years old before the start of next season which is mind-blowing; he’s done fairly well this season but surely enough is enough?

Coleman turned 36 in October and has availability reflects his age nowadays; not worth keeping on again, surely. Possibly a youth coaching role would be the best way of keeping him at the club.

All of that makes perfect sense. Gueye you'd imagine depends on his form until end of season - so far so good. Him and Mangala, if possible, are cheap fills for CM that are more than decent. We have bigger problem areas.

It would be a disgrace if Coleman is retained. Constantly injured, level nowhere near what's needed any more. Keep him at the club to get his UEFA badges, but that's about it.

Young has been one of our best players this season, but as you say 40 years old shortly. Whoever is in charge needs to decide on Patterson: Is he going to get a genuine shot at RB? If not, sell. I have no doubt that Young is a positive influence behind the scenes. In an emergency, especially if Patterson is being sold, he could be kept in the 2020-2024 Coleman role on a reduced wage, but we need a new starting RB next season if Patterson is deemed not good enough.

hopefully Armstrong and Dixon make the grade and step into contention proper. Wonder if Omari Benjamin starts to appear on the bench soon.

I expect extensions to be given to a number of those players out of contract and a full 4 loans being made use of.

Our PSR woes have not disappeared and we will see a great deal of pragmatism over the coming windows I would guess

Pretty sure docoure signed a new contract 16 months ago on much reduced terms..

120k was his original contract.

Probably still on sh1t loads for a man with his "talents".
Yes, it was difficult to get his exact wage online. One source even said £130k / week! I went in the middle with £120k but I’d imagine you’re right, the terms would’ve been reduced within the extension surely.
