hopefully Armstrong and Dixon make the grade and step into contention proper. Wonder if Omari Benjamin starts to appear on the bench soon.
I expect extensions to be given to a number of those players out of contract and a full 4 loans being made use of.
Our PSR woes have not disappeared and we will see a great deal of pragmatism over the coming windows I would guess
I'd offer him 600 quid cash in the hand no questions asked and leave it at that - anything more is scandalousYes, it was difficult to get his exact wage online. One source even said £130k / week! I went in the middle with £120k but I’d imagine you’re right, the terms would’ve been reduced within the extension surely.
You see, I'd argue that Doucoure's level and performances have been precisely WHY we were in last-day relegation battles. Just because he came up trumps once doesn't obviate what got us into that position in the first place: and, as critical as I am of Lampard and co, it wasn't just our managers...Doucoure's goals are a big reason why we are still a premier league club and so for that alone he is worth the salary we have been paying him...now it is clear that he is nowhere near the level needed going forward and glad his contract is coming to an end, more so this season as it starts to really struggle. Rashford's contributions on the other hand are not really reflecting of his ridiculous wages. United would be in the same place with or without him now and in recent times.
Out of the OOC lads, I’d only be looking to give Gana a new deal for another year with the first team in mind. Young, if he keeps it up, would be good third choice backup for the fullback position. Virginia can stay too because it saves us a headache. None of the others justify the wage they’d command, including DCL.
Coleman needs to be kept around in a development/coaching capacity, as far as I can tell he has the makings of a good coach.
From the loanees, I’d be looking to sign Mangala on a cut price deal from Lyon seeing as they’re struggling. Broja potentially too if he shows something for us.
Armstrong, Dixon, Mills and potential one or two others should be promoted. They’re all athletic with good technical ability.
Branthwaite will be the cash cow that lets us rebuild, and boy do we need it. With the wages freed up from the returning loanees and OOC lads we’re actually in a great position for a full reset, though of course that’s always risky.
I’d be looking to sign first choice RBs and LBs, I like Walker Peters from Saints who can play both and who is out of contract in the summer. A first choice CB, two new wingers and a first choice CF are the absolute minimum we need.
I actually think if we have Garner, Gana, Mangala, Armstrong and Tim in CM we’re well stocked with centre mids who could all adapt and actually play some footy through the lines too (bar possibly Gana).
I’m feeling optimistic for the first time in ages; been sick of seeing awful players on huge wages contributing nothing for far too long.
Decent post. Thankfully not descended into a Football Manager style fantasy football wishlist. I'd keep Virginia, the rest could well be shifted. I'd also sign Mangala. Steady pair of er....hands/feet !Provided Dyche keeps us in the Premier League, the summer of 2025 promises to be a huge rebuilding process for the new owners.
We have the following 10 players out of contract in the summer:
Doucoure £120k
Calvert-Lewin £100k
Keane £80k
Gueye £80k
Holgate £70k
Coleman £55k
Maupay £50k
Young £40k
Begovic £9k
Virginia £8k
TOTAL: £612k / week
(All salaries are approximate and averaged out from various sources across the web; please don’t take as gospel)
We also have 4 players returning to their parent clubs at the end of their loans:
Broja
Harrison
Lindstrøm
Mangala
That’s a huge turnover of 14 players, but also provides some much needed finance for a rebuild.
Based on the above, we will only have the following 12 senior players:
Pickford
Patterson
Mykolenko
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
O’Brien
Iroegbunam
Garner
McNeil
Ndiaye
Beto
Chermiti
Priority signings would then have to be:
• Starting RB
• Starting LB
• Starting CM
• Starting RW
• Starting CF
We’d also need a backup goalkeeper, whilst perhaps looking to promote Armstrong and a couple of youth team players to the first team squad.
Personally, I don’t feel that Patterson, Mykolenko, Beto are good enough, but could serve as backup until January / Summer 2026, otherwise it would leave us too much to do in one summer.
Discussion:
1. How much of the above (if any) do you think we will be able to get done this coming January?
2. Do we keep any of the contract expiry players (maybe on a 1-year extension on reduced terms)?
3. Do we turn any of the loan players into permanent signings?
4. Are there any other starting eleven positions that I’ve missed from the priority signings?
Yep, I think keeping Gana on a 1-year reduced terms deal would be perfect for us; as long as he doesn’t get offered a 2-year elsewhere, he’d probably take it too.
Young as a “fifth” full back would be fine; Mykolenko and Patterson as backup to two new starting full backs, and I’ve been banging the Walker-Peters drum for ages, particularly due to his versatility across right & left. If he came in, there’d be no need to renew Young then.
Forgot about Mills too; how has he done on loan this season?
Sacrificing Branthwaite is bold. But it’s only him or Pickford who would command a decent fee.
Pretty sure I've heard/read £200 million player spend can be created once new owners are owning with current FFP rules...With that many players leaving at the end of the season, we certainly need to find space under the current financial restrictions to bring in some players in January. I assume spending can be offset against any loans paid off with the new ownership, or maybe the stadium naming rights deal?
Blow it all up and start again.
