Big Friedkin Rebuild

Exactly why a new manager is needed now and not the summer.

Free hit with this season but can at least see what players would work in his system and what young players are capable of being squad players.

Where's the logic when 14 players you've worked with for 5 months are going and you have to bring in replacements to start all over again?

Newcastle and Villa are certainly good examples to look at, and should be clubs that are on our level financially.

They both invested in the last few years, still Howe and Emery reached a CL spot with many players that played relegation battle under Gerrard respectively Bruce in their first full season.

I think they had the better base squad when they took over, type of players etc, but surely we could get more out of this squad with the right manager appointment.

I understand people saying “where would we be without THAT Doucoure goal” etc. But think, if we would have sold him and invested in a reasonably priced quality player in that or nearby positions, just for example a Morgan Gibbs White, maybe a Cunha etc. then perhaps over that season we wouldnt have needed a last day goal to survive. We have to identify where we can improve and move on.

Ideally we will get to safety quickly, putting distance to the relegation zone ASAP. Then start introducing youth into the team. On the last day (hopefully finishing mid-table+) say goodbye to Dyche and bring in a quality manager immediately . Then let the re-build commence, with all/most of the first team getting a full pre-season under their belts!

MGW and Cunha both joined their clubs for fees that we were unable to afford at the time.

No idea mate. Could be it was between them and Onana who we went for that summer? But no idea really
That's my point with Thelwell though, its all over the place at times, Onana is a defensive player and MGW is an attacking player, when we couldn't get MGW instead of getting another attacking midfielder we went for a defensive one, no plan, no structure, just clueless.

The difference between us and Villa & Newcastle is, their owners took over when there was more or less a clean slate.

Ashley for all his issues, had Newcastle operating at close to profit (probably because he wouldn't spend a penny).

Villa came off back of Grealish going for £100m, plus not a lot of expenditure. So they had time to build the squad (Wesley aside, the pickups they'd made prior to Grealish leaving still played a big part now).

We've got extra revenue from the new ground coming, but we still lost £90m last season, were very close to the FFP threshold and I cannot see us spending heavily at all.

It's a 2-3 year overhaul job this, it very much concerns me when people set lofty expectations.

Expect some of those out of contract players to be signed out necessity, not desire.

I see we’re still acting like we’re the only club in the land that will vanish into dust if we get relegated.
We won't now but I think we could have done pre takeover etc. The debts are absolutely massive and most of the squad won't have had relegation wage clauses like a load of other clubs do, I make no apologies for thinking it could have been curtains if we'd gone down 2 years ago.

It's an opportunity rather than a weakness imo. Most if not all of them would accept an extended contract if we offered them, but many will be binned off as we wish to improve and move on from them.

The picture should look a bit different come the end of January anyway, as we will see incomings and departures in January.

Doucoure hasn't had his wages reduced, he was in an extremely strong position at the time his most recent contract was agreed. We actually have the option to extend his contract in the summer as well. I think this was possibly more to do with ensuring we get a fee for him, which I think we will in either January or the summer.

I agree if we’d gone down 2 or 3 years ago with all those players still having years left to run on £100k per week contracts, we’d have been finished. That’s how close Moshiri took us to the brink, and nobody should forget that when they’re trying to rewrite his tenure because of the new stadium.

Then why were we chasing after both if we knew we couldn't afford either one? this is what irks with Thelwell, the time wasted chasing pointless targets.
As I've said before, I really don't think it's a big leap at all to think that the DoF has been working with no idea what his budget really is. Obviously we don't know how things are behind the scenes, but based on literally everything that has happened since Moshiri took over I don't think it's in any way unlikely that what people at the club are told is the situation and what is actually the situation are entirely different things.

Sorry but I refuse to believe that when bidding for a player the DoF doesn't actually know how much money they have to bid with.
