Big Nev Statue

I started going to games in the early 80s - before we were good. Then suddenly we were winning games, winning cups, winning leagues - it was incredible! And we did it without buying big name players. We had a team, and in 87 a squad that deserved it. Can't tell you how many players I absolutely adore from that era - Reid was just magnificent, Ratcliffe - a captain at that age, was just ridiculous, Stevens, nest right back I'd seen , Steven - oh my word, Bracewell - my favourite player for some time, Mountfield - a centre bAck getting double figures in goals, Gray - drove us on, Sharpy - goals galore, Van den Hauwe - none shall pass, Lineker - what a season for him, Power, hugely underrated and vital to our 87 league win... it goes on and one. But my heart leant towards 2 players. Adrian Heath - can watch his goals all day long, and he always put a shift in whether he was player up front or further back in midfield and he scored goals someone of his size had no right to - diving in to get his head on the ball ahead of 6 foot defenders - magical, Sheedy - really there aren't enough words to say how good he was - so many moments of genius and pure talent, and Nev. Best keeper in the world. End of. Build the statue, but it should include all of that 80's team
What might have been eh, we had a great run cut short for some reason beyond our control. The thing is we never know what would have happened had we not broken up that side and been on top/near it when the money came from Sky. But they are more bitter about a clumsy tackle in a game and never get called out on facts.

Dixie,Bally, then Nev,i hope whatever the "rift"is between the big fella and the hierarchy at Goodison it is resolved whilst he is still around, life is way,way too short,of course he should have a statue or even a stand named in his honour at BMD.
Nev's morality could not comply with present PL owners and structure. We love the class we have now but source of funds does not sit well with the reality of the ordinary man. However I will suffer it to make the RS cry. ' Yer cheated winnin deh league, yer killed veeergil.' Best Scouse Norwegian.

Would never happen. Far to outspoken and never will toe the party line, rightly or wrongly. Club would never commemorate a statue for such a 'loose cannon'

All day long there should be a nod to the binman at the new stadium. At his peak he was the best in the world in his position. When the team dipped Nev was the one to say this was not good enough. And when we had a bounce for a year or two he was key in grabbing us a cup. When you talk about Everton legends then Nev is right in the middle of that conversation.

Nobody would mistake you for a koppite on a wind up.

....great player, but I can think of better options for a statue.
I can see why people may have that view, but for me if we're considering their 'on-the-pitch' influence then Southall has to be right up near to or in the top echelons.

His demeanour at the time by not looking for the limelight and his outspoken attitude since, failure to toe the club line, have shaped his image away from glory.

Out of the 80s squad, I can't think of someone who was pivotal to our success bar the boss himself. Over a larger period, he still sits above nearly everyone.

Its exactly what made him great though isnt it. The way i look at New he walked the walk, performances, trophies, leadership contribution, he was the same as player if he didnt like someting hed say it, but his loyalty would never be called into question. I remember the 95 final and we were underdogs the man was just so calm radiated confidence througout the team and a "this aint no thing" mentality.

A maverick and Everton should always be home for Mavericks.
