Been out the game too long now, besides the insidious football snobbery that surrounded his last tenure with us if it were me in that position would have me running a mile laughing at any approach and throwing the humble "pie" right back. He is having the last laugh now...

It wasn't exactly decades ago that he was here last, yanno. One thing I fondly remember from then was him telling Holgate to shift his defensive position 5 yards in a first half, and then delivering a foul mouthed rollocking for having to tell him the same thing again, later. I also remember thinking right back then that Sam sounded far from convinced about signing Tosun, and he was just mouthing stats that whatever idiot was behind the signing had thrown at him.

I'm not saying that Sam is the current answer, but (admittedly ignorant of foitball as I am) I suspect that a lot of our current failings, are due to simple things like players being 5 yards away from where they should be, players being bought because they're good at X, and then being told to focus on Y, and playing safe when they should pass and vice versa. Maybe someone who knows the basics of the game, and is not obsessed with high falutin' formations and keep ball, would be best in our current dire circumstances.
