Bill Kenwright

It's not hindsight stuff either.

I can find posts/tweets from 2016 when I'm saying the same as I am today - and I certainly wasn't a minority voice. Everyone knew it.

It's why I think fans would do well to remember, that Moshiri can of course remove Kenwright whenever he likes. It's he who is allowing this to drag on.
I dont think its that simple for Moshiri to get rid of Kenwright. There are so many skeletons in the cupboards that they have to tread carefully before either of them are removed.

I think also ( as many others have mentioned ) that Kenwright has his own built in security , maybe as part of the deal he cannot be removed until a certain date , again as many suspect when Bramley Moore opens.

Or it could be the sinister theory that Kenwright knows far too much about the inner workings of Moshiri and his associate friend.

Either way this has to be sorted out right now , it's the Club that's suffering in a big way.

Whatever we think of the board - remember, it's one man who could, and should have made changes years back.

I don't find myself asking why Kenwright won't go/leave, I find myself, as I have since 2016 asking myself why Moshiri hasn't bothered his arse to bring in competent professionals and allowed them to run the club.

I believe he has 'local/Evertonians' in place as lip service and he makes all the big decisions.

You could have the best board in the world, but if the owner ignores them then it doesn't matter.
But the board are then culpable in allowing that to continue….so owner and board are wrong. I’m convinced Moshiri has only even been here for the stadium

I've speculated in the past in an attempt to try and understand what Moshiri was playing at that maybe Kenwright had some sort of agreement about remaining in place until new stadium etc but it's all been proven as nonsense.

The reality is, Moshiri can have any board he wants.

My opinion is, Moshiri is chaotic and I doubt whether he'd allow whatever board he has to run the club.

He said he has learned from mistakes, whether that allows him to now allow competent professionals who understand football to run the club is another matter.

There's no mistaking the fact that under Kenwright as owner, Everton were better ran, and more competitive than under Moshiri.

That's not a defence of Kenwright, he/the last board can be a big part of the problem but my worry is replacing the board doesn't solve our problem if Moshiri doesn't hire a strong board (they dont have to be local and Evertonians ffs) and allow the new board to run the club.

I said this of Brands when years later he's having a little PR whine. He took the money. He himself and the CEO said he was ultimately responsible for all football matters so to turn around years later and say it wasn't on him, after accepting promotion to the board and renewing his contract just demonstrates he was a little toad.

I think there’s an argument to say that he tried to make it work - he was with us for 3 years which isn’t a lengthy tenure for a DoF, and he resigned (I think) so at least he left. The rest of the mob, three of whom are supposedly Blues were happy to just take the dough. I agree that it isn’t a good look though to spout revisionist crap in the media like he did in an attempt to preserve his own reputation. He should have remained quiet.

Is right as much as i dislike Kenwright this owner just uses him as a buffer for the flack on the awful decisions he makes
no wonder he wants him to stick around
The appointment of Benitez tells you all you need to know no one at this club other than the owner would of made that call
get rid of the board the chairman but the root of the problem still remains it is Moshiri he will replace with like for like

That's not entirely accurate Peter.

He was here in 2018.

He was promoted to the board in 2019.

“Our approach now is to have a Director of Football with a broader remit, responsible for the whole footballing strategy at the Club, rather than just player recruitment. Marcel is now responsible, and accountable, for delivering the long-term, holistic, football strategy and principles, from Academy through to the first team. Marcel has now begun his work on delivering the club's long-term, permanent football strategy, working closely with the Academy Director (Joel Waldron) and Head of Football Strategy (Richard Battle).”

He renewed his contract in April 2021.

He was sacked a few months after renewing, in December 2021 - a sacrifice for fan discontent.

So a director of football, so well thought of by the owner and board that he was promoted to the board and very publicly made responsible and accountable for the whole football strategy. Years later he's given a contract renewal, which he considered and renewed and so he was clearly happy with the role he'd had for 4 years.

So we seem to have a mix of a bat poo crazy owner, a board who in self preservation mode would throw anyone under a bus (including later trying to hide behind a club legend), and a director of football who at the time was happy to take the money, only for years later to claim all the problems was Moshiri.

Unfortunately, I dont think all Evertons problems are resolved with replacing the board. It's a step in the right direction, but it falls down when it's Moshiri's misguided judgement on credentials needed to be on Everton's board (massive overemphasis on being an Evertonian/knowing the city), and it crumbles when Moshiri inevitably ignores them.

Not that I have a clue who should be on Everton's board. But the whole emphasis on "knowing the city" and being an Evertonian really does make me squirm. This, in January;

[Do you still have faith in your board? Many Everton fans have been calling for you to dismiss them, to sack them]

Farhad Moshiri: “Look, they’ve been there for a long time. Some are new appointments but their longstanding, dedicated, they’re local and it’s so important to keep the club in Liverpool, the roots in Liverpool. Those are the rules of the club, they love the club, you know they’ve been attending games under every condition

Not to mention "Benitez knows the city"

So misguided it's incredible.

Sacked? All the reports I read said he quit or at most a mutual departure. I’m not saying he was good by the way, just it looked to me that he eventually had enough whereas the other board members carried on

My take on this is that Bill was supposed leave at the same time as the other 3 board members, but Bill refused at the final hour.
An emergency meeting was then arranged in London between Farhad and Bill to resolve his exit, and the situation would be resolved after that meeting, hence the 48 hours later statement.
I have a feeling that Bill has refused to leave and things are now in limbo.
Kenwright is a vindictive man. He would rather EFC go up in flames than see anyone else in his seat.

lol Of course he was. I linked one such report in my post.

Everton's board also "left" or "resigned" according to some reports "Club legend Graeme Sharp among the trio to decide to leave their roles". You'll likely read the same with Kenwright soon enough.

Tell you what, we're lucky Lampard didn't decide to refuse to leave.
