I'm not judging his entire life on the football part.

The football part of his life was a dismal failure. That failure was down to his weird self-belief that he was the best man for the job. (there's plenty of examples of this, told by the man himself)

People have said some wonderful things about him. Sometimes just a comforting word, sometimes an incredibly generous financial gesture. Those stories have genuinely made me smile, it's wonderful to be in a position to bring so much joy into people's lives.

Those stories of kindness and compassion don't reduce the damage he did to Everton in any way whatsoever.

I'm sorry he didn't get to see a successful Everton under his leadership and I'm sorry he didn't recognise his own inability to move us forward more or less right away. As you say, he was arguably the last of the local owners, it should have been abundantly clear he was massively out of his depth. (Trevor Birch told him as much within weeks of starting work)

His desperation to be a hero to Evertonians has brought us as a club to where we are today. I'm annoyed at that. I'll always be annoyed.

I won't be there on Tuesday, but I'm sure he'll get a nice send off from the club and fans present - exactly how it should be. By the same token, I won't ignore it when people eulogise about him for years to come when talking about Everton. I'll argue he's the worst thing that's ever happened to Everton until its time for me to leave this life.

Bill Kenwright, Evertonian - a kind an generous man.

That's the nicest thing I'll say.

Good night.
You worded that well mate. I believe what you said is the sentiments of the majority

Never let it be forgotten that the reason Bill wasn't able to attend Goodison in the final year of his life was because decisions were taken by people who told him not to take his seat at the ground one day as they were determined to peddle untrue stories about the fans.

Those people should have a heavy conscience for what they did to Bill Kenwright. They live with that forever. They turned a fanbase sceptical of BK into something much worse and poisoned his relationship with the club. We all know who they are.

RIP Bill.

He was a grown man. He could of addressed the lies or attempted to mend fences with the fans. All that was needed was a simple meá clupa. No one to blame for his self imposed exile other than himself.

Bill and his fellow board members threw the entire fanbase under a bus right before a desperately important relegation home match which we went on to lose. Never let that be forgotten either Dave. But I should have realised you're stirring up trouble yet again Dave..

In my opinion the biggest mistake Bill Kenwright made on a personal level was staying as chairman and staying on the board after Moshiri took control.

Up to that point we were a secure Premiership team, plenty of mistakes had been made of coure but that level of safety seems a long time ago.

I don't think he could control Moshiri, disagreed with lots that was happening but stayed on to try to moderate the biggest mistakes.
I think a lot of the rage that should have been aimed at Moshiri went instead to Bill Kenwright.

I have said this before many times and not just since his death.
Of course BK made mistakes in his own right and worst of all was guilty of not being wealthy enough to move the club away from always having to count the pennies.
However the real damage has been done under Moshiri. Moshiri certainly did what we wanted by loosening the purse strings but his decision making has been horrendous. BMD being the noticeable exception.

Sorry for your loss, sounds like a thoroughly decent chap and despite your recent struggles he has ultimately preserved your run of 69 consecutive seasons in the top flight, second only to Arsenal.

However, this isn't quite true... We've got 3 more years of this old bird apparently before ownership transitions to the yankees.

Which would be true if Delia Smith wasn't born and raised in Surrey...

lets get it right, Bill is the reason he couldnt attend games, he and the others fabricated lies to label the fans as scum to take the attention away from the real scum.

RIP's have been said and should be left at that. but the amount of people rewriting history to make out he was some hero is insane.

Perfectly stated. My sentiments exactly.

My view of Kenwright is that yes he did decent things for people, wouldn't most on here do if they had the chance to. Doesn't mean we are qualified for high up jobs at Everton. It infuriates me, when people pretend to know celebrities characters, as I never knew him personally can't comment on that. What I do object to is praise of his professional achievements at Everton or lack of them. He waited ages to sell the club and then sold us to an idiot, we have been a shambles ever since Moshiri came in. Nobody has a clue whose making decisions, so there's no accountability, the money wasted especially in 2017 has got us in the mess we are in now, possibly facing a point deduction. How can you spend all that money and go from being on the verge on the top 4, when Moyes left to fighting relegation. Had he been more transparent with fans he would of gained more friends, humility is something most respect. Keegan admitting he was out of his depth was admirable, Kenwright should of walked away and enjoyed his final few years. Instead he added to the utter confusion, nobody knowing who was making decisions, which idiot allowed Digne to leave because Benitez didn't like him, then 2 days later Benitez gets sacked. Players like Davies, Holgate and Keane get multiple chances, yet players like Kean, Nkonkou who looked excellent when he played were shown the door. Ellis Simms makes a few mistakes and is shown the door, he didn't get a chance, yet Maupay gets picked week in week out. To spend 10s of millions of pounds in 2017 and end up with our 4th choice right back at left back and Jonjoe Kenny at right back is ridiculous. Releasing idiotic statements backing managers, then sacking them far too late. Martinez should of been sacked after we lost in the league cup semi, Silva after we lost to Norwich, Lampard before Christmas. I didn't wish ill on Bill just felt he should of stepped away from the club in an official setting that's it.
