Bill Kenwright

Just misguided... just didn't have the dough.... he was really nice in the 15 seconds I spent with him etc etc

Misguided folk don't lie through their teeth, they don't continually blame others around them, they don't make up stories of violence to run down a group of working class people so that they might profit, they don't befriend and empower awful human beings like phillip green. Bill was a slippery charlatan who's main concern was his bank balance and having a stage for the kenwright show, I'm sorry for his family and won't kick up a fuss during his mintutes applause or whatever, after that I hope we can move on from his disastrous reign and stop with the guff about what a great blue he was.

This.
If it's a silence - then be silent.
If it's applause and you don't agree - then don't applaud.

But above all don't give the Everton haters anything to work with.

Also, my general point was it costs nothing to show a bit of respect to someone who has passed away and their family. He wasn't an evil person. He was misguided in his leadership and held on far too long, to everyone's detriment. But, if you've got half a brain cell and are a decent person, you should be able to distinguish between the two - that was my point.

"Respect" isn't a given for anybody and dying doesn't assure that it will be afforded.

Nobody said he was evil, but as I said, there is plenty of evidence of his many lies over many issues and many years, where he has acted in his own interests and to the detriment of the club. Why would we want or need to separate that, that is as much part of him as anything else.

A minute's silence I wouldn't have an issue with, it's a classy thing you can do without having to feel like you're paying tribute to someone.

An applause would be a joke.
I think the point is a minutes applause is far harder to ruin.

If it was a minutes silence it would be ruined by 30 seconds, absolute GOLD for the media!

“Ungrateful Evertonians, don't they know he saved the club?"

I'm no fan of his, but if you're in the ground and don't think he deserves applause, just don't go along with it. Quite a few of my mates are arriving late/ staying on the concourse until it's done.

He's gone from Everton, forever.

The damage cannot be undone anytime soon. I see no point in holding on to the anger he caused in me to feel. The only time I'll discuss him again is if I hear some berk praising his time as chair/owner and a little educational lesson is needed.

Bye, Chairman Bill.

Almost every Everton fan will acknowledge that Mr Kenwright was a very poor Chairman and onetime owner of the club.

That era is over, he has now died. What good comes from pages of rhetoric about how poor his tenure was, it will change nothing.

The man has gone, just afford a fellow blue the courtesy of some respect, even if you cannot bring yourself to applaud, you can just remain silent. All booing/cat-calling does is feed the egomania of the press.

Whilst this may seem trivial to the most vociferous, surely a moment for the greater good of the club overrides the need for venting of spleen.

Please.

I also know several people who knew him. As I said previously, I'm not sure or entirely convinced of the relevance.

The point is, his lies and misdemeanours as chairman are too numerous and well-documented and incidentally stretch long beyond "the last decade"...... that's the only real context most of us can speak of with certainty.
You can show respect for a person when they pass - he wasn't evil.

That doesn't mean you have to respect him as a Chairman.

I think Rafael Benitez is a horrendous manager. Doesn't mean I think he's a bad person.

I'm of the opinion that all human life should be respected. We're all lucky to be here and a lot of us are fortunate to live lives where one of our main concerns is a football club, and not whether we'll make it from one day to the next without a bomb dropping on us.

So yeah, I can show respect to him and his family without thinking he was some shining beacon of brilliance, it ain't hard.

If you want to applaud then do so, if not don’t.

I understand he was a nice bloke, however it may be more fitting to have these sort of celebrations in the theatres rather than the place where his success is minimal and his support is less.

Perhaps in true conspiracy theory the aim is to show the Everton fans in a bad light so when the FFP punishment drops people will think ‘those ungrateful bluenoses deserve it’

There should be absolutely not be a minutes applause. Why as a fanbase and club should we want to celebrate a man who very nearly ran us into administration, let Russian gangsters into the boardroom and outright slandered supporters by inventing false assault accusations?! It would be like the RS wanting to honour Hicks and Gillette, how do you think that would go down?

He was a stain on this football club and the quicker he's forgotten about entirely the better. A big public applause like that before a match is essentially saying 'thank you' to him. Thank you?! After all of the above? It would be head-shakingly depressing, just like it was when people stood up and applauded his smug, lying grid back in 2011. I'm going tomorrow and if such a thing is planned then I'll be heading to the bogs.

It's been a week now, those of us who refrained for a bit to give his loved ones time to grieve, and have watched and listened to the tributes, should be able to state our view again now. It is not immoral/insensitive to want nothing to do with honouring this man.

Fabulous post. 👏

That's your opinion, it's a joke TO YOU. The RS fully went out and played 'he's not heavy he's my brother' with a fair amount clapping/showing respect. is that a joke to you also?

Clapping is usually done to show respect to someone who has died. Like many have said, simply don't clap? Don't push your stance on everyone else and ridicule the club for trying to be respectful.

To be fair, had he moved us to Kirkby the neighbours would have built him a statue.

Said before, no issue with the man or the fan, but we can all see the issues people can have with his chairmanship or our club.

If people want to clap, let them clap - I can applaud a human being who has done a lot for charity and good causes in our city and I separate his failures at Everton from that celebration and respect of a life - if you don’t want to celebrate anything to do with the man, simply stay silent - no clapping, no booing, just do nothing - it’s not difficult.

Talk of stadiums and statues relating to Everton and kenwright need to be nipped in the bud also - they aren’t suited or applicable.

He’d be better celebrated and remembered with theatres named after him, for all his obvious good work in that field, or a charity even.

Sensible post, I’m going tonight, like you I hope it’s a mnute‘s applause,I will sit down in silence waiting for the match to start, if Bobby Charlton’s name is included I will stand and applaud.
