Oh.

Whatever that means in English. I might be having an @Ashtonian moment, I think.

I'm waiting on an email to confirm the true defenition of ashtonian ;)

On topic, Made up for Bob Dylan, not a fan of his but no denying he is a legend

Can't wait until Sting receives his Nobel Prize for "outstandingly pretentious contributions to the virtue-signalling expression of lyrical didacticism"

Seems like, oh I don't know--Cormac McCarthy, Charles Simic, Anne Carson, and about 100 other people are better candidates.

Dylan's lyrics, while good, only come to life when accompanied by chords--that is music! And music isn't literature last I checked.

I'm sure Hall and Oates will be waiting by the phone next year

Kiss on my List

My friends wonder why I call you all of the time
What can I say
I don´t feel the need to give such secrets away
You think maybe I need help, no, I know that I´m right
I´m just better off not listening to friends´ advice

When they insist on knowing my bliss
I tell them this
When they want to know what the reason is
I only smile when I lie, then I tell them why
your kiss is on my list

(Because your kiss) your kiss is on my list
Because your kiss is on my list of the best things in life
(Because your kiss) your kiss is on my list
(Because your kiss) your kiss I can´t resist
Because your kiss is what I miss when I turn out the light

Disagree. The chords are the music, the words are the literature.

I agree with that, but if we are only judging on the lyrics alone, then it is (in my opinion) a very undeserving award. I'm only saying that most people enjoy Dylan because of the interaction of lyrics+music, including likely many of Nobel judges. Afterall, his albums are what sells, not books of his song lyrics.

Well deserved and long overdue. Bob is one of the greatest singer-songwriters of the 20th century.

Bob was appearing at the Odeon cinema in London Rd, the day we beat Sheffield Wed in the 1966 Cup final.

It's a farce. I very much enjoy Dylan but he didn't deserve the award. If they were to give it to some song artist, than I prefer Leonard Cohen. Lots of his lyrics are able to stand alone. I also consider it somewhat insulting for people who actually write spectacular literature.
