Boss photos you've taken

hello pickle!

My feeble attempts at one of Britain's rarest and hardest to photograph birds, the bittern this evening at Brockholes. They were taken at 5.10pm so you'll appreciate how dull the light was by then. It meant having the ISO at 6400 and the lens could be no faster than f/9 being at 500mm with a 1.4 extender. I was in a stand of trees by the public crossing shooting through the reeds that cover the bank. Not the best, but just pleased to have seen the bittern at Preston. Cropped, of course.

Also got a very distant shot of a kingfisher.

It's done! My NEW WEBSITE IS LIVE!

Having spent 12 months with Zenfolio, I decided it was time to return to Photium for my website.

I got in touch with Will (their support staff member (along with David)) and informed him I planned to come back.

He gave me a little discount as a returning subscriber. I have to say that the help he gave me in setting up the new site layout was phenomenal, and without him I would have taken ages to complete it.

I am running a new beta style for them - with the main pages full screen on random selections in each of the 5 main galleries, whilst retaining the easy to navigate sales menu pages.

Go have a look, and let me know if it looks good (here or in the guestbook) if you've got time, cos I think they have done a damned good job on their latest design.

Nice colour.

Two more from today taken at opposite ends of the lake.

Fantastic photos, particularly the top one.

Here is a wee little blue tit, perched on a small branch waiting it's turn to go to the feeders.

Exif: ISO 640, 1/160sec, f/6.3

Boss that. Taken on a Sigma too, just bought the 17-70mm contemporary one lid. Looking forward to having a go with it but next up will be an expensive zoom (I have the bog standard Canon 18-250mm) when I've saved up sufficiently for one.

Do you just sit off with your camera on a tripod waiting for the action? And was this cropped?

It is cropped Azul, yeah, but this was taken at Pennington Flash - they have loads of feeding stations at the Bunting Hide, with plenty of branches, broken tree trunks and such all nearby, so you get some locations for the birds to perch on rather than the feeders:

Conditions at the time were poor, low light in the wooded area, so I had to use settings which are not the best for birds especially at long focal lengths, so these came out pretty well, but did require a longer period of photoshopping.

Cheers lid.
