Looking on getting a Canon 1100D.
Should I or? I've been wanting one for ages but never got around to it.
1200D is out now... Much better.
The 1100D is a fine beginners camera. If you can find one within your budget, you'd do greeat. Make sure you get a lens or two as well if you can - even in the 2nd hand market.

the 1.8/50 is brilliant value, great little lens that. Tons better IQ than the standard kit lens, and f1.8 is magic!
I recommend getting a 600D. Much better camera than the 1100D. Here's one from a good UK seller, with the II lens (the III lens doesn't have the IS):

you certainly can. Photography is a hugely-rewarding hobby (the girls love it). Much better than pissing up 300 quid in a month of drunken weekends in bars.
