Boss photos you've taken

The weather is still surprisingly cold in the north west and the winds are stronger than expected - leading to a paucity of insects around my area. Did find a fly on a leaf on the spiraea shrub - but there's is so little to go at it's becoming depressing!!!

@Bilbo's still out doing his thing

I got my eager hands on a Nikon D3 the other day, a full 7 years gone since first lusting after it thanks to dpreview's gushing review.

Well, I still prefer Canon bodies, but it's a very fine piece of kit. Some test shots here, 5mp (DX-crop) JPG's with the AI-S Nikkor 2.8/180, resized to load quick:

Finally the wind subsided enough to allow me ten minutes hunting around the garden tonight and finally a couple of subjects - an orb spider/cross spider, and a harlequin ladybird on the flower off the clematis, and then after it flew from there, I found it again on a love in the mist, where I managed some nice colourful images. I like the last best personally, but also the profile and patterning on the spider.

This is my nemesis. One of the 2 insects that I really do not like - despite how great they look (the other is the centipede).

I got about as close as I wanted to for this!

Haha, they all give me the creeps, but their eyes are so cool, and this guys head looks like it's made of leather... wonder if there's a 'micro' industry there....

A bit of sunshine has brought a few bugs into the garden - a mason bee - seen this a good few times, but this is the first I managed to get a shot - then there's a new for me hoverfly, and a female wolf spider carrying her babies in the bag at the back, a tree bumblebee, only the second ti,e recorded in my garden, and fleeting glimpse for the first time this year of a ruby-tailed wasp on the wall of the house.

Oh, and a young frog appeared in the pond. Not this years froglets as it was much to large, so maybe one of last years that has stopped over.
