Stepped into the garden and found this delightful chappie snuffling around the recycling bins likely look for slugs and worms...

I accidentally kicked one in bare feet as I was putting stuff out in the bin, those spike things are very very effective.

I don't see as many of this species - mine tend to be the hawthorn bug, but always nice to find one.

Wasp in the garden today. I don't get too close because when they get intoxicated on the juices of the apples, wasps can get quite aggressive...

I was out running on Saturday and for no reason whatsoever, one landed on the back of my thigh and stung me, which later caused my thigh to swell up

Their nests are amazing too.

We’ve had a couple in the loft over the years.

It’s incredible to think that they’re able to build something so complex and delicate.

Works of art. All inate too - the brains in insects are so uncomplicated - there are few inhabitants on the planet that even use simple ideas such as "choice" for instance.

Bug hunting by night and the neighbour's garden fence supplied the subjects.

A crane fly, an opilione (harvestman) and a couple of cross spiders (A. diadematus).

Only half decent picture I took from my trek up Harter Fell this afternoon. Visibility was about 1-2m, lashing it down, very windy. Not my brightest move.

Spent a few days in North Wales this week. I was supposed to be jetting off to Bulgaria with some friends this week, but Covid ended those plans, hence the long weekend in South Wales last month and a few days up north this week.

Headed over to Llandudno on Tuesday and hiked up Great Orme. It was a really nice day, very clear and sunny. We even spotted a load of seals splashing about in the water and basking on the rocks when we were about halfway up, but couldn't get any decent pics of them.

These turned out nice though:
