Melanostoma scalare (hoverfly).

Plus a lone wolf spider.

Paul.

Hi Paul, lovely as always.

In this case, what lighting set up have you got? How is it diffused?

Right, here goes...

Current diffusion is "bought flash heads covers", which are moulded to fit into the twin flash heads of my Yongnuo YN24EX.

Inside these heads is a small cut out of packaging and Vellum paper which cover the actual flash lights, but not the modelling lights.

On the outside is an arched piece of 150gsm Vellum paper held on with Velcro (though this can be swapped for thin foam packaging material).

Finally, under the arms that hold the flash heads I have placed another piece of 150gsm vellum paper which spans across the width of the flash heads, to try and create a wider spread.

It works, though it does cause a loss of power from the flash which I have to change the exposure value of to try and illuminate the subject.

It's still a work in progress though because I need to try and allow more light through without creating hotspots whilst maintaining the softness the diffusion is creating.

I've added a photo.

Appreciate it. Always to see/read about set ups.

Is the flash set to manual for control and power or TTL for lowering your workload? I'd guess the latter as your subjects are not trained models who pose on demand lol
