It's Arachnida ( Acari - Mites ) - Prostigmata - Eupodidae - Eupodes sp.

I don't think I've seen one before let alone photographed one! They're tiny and oh so quick too !

The untouchables

The Mayfly - and the briefest of encounters...

The eggs of mayflies are laid underwater, and the nymphs which hatch from the eggs can live for two years in the water.

Then come the summer, the adults hatch out - sometimes simultaneously and they can appear in their hundreds. Sadly, they have very short lifespan (just hours in some cases), during which they display and breed.

Many of them don't feed as adults as their sole purpose is to reproduce, dying once they have mated.

Just before the rain came today, I took these photos in the garden.

There is an opillione (harvestman), a sunfly (hoverfly, Helophilus pendulus) and 2 springtail species (Orchesella cincta and Tomocerus sp.).

Would be interested to know which source(s) you use to identify all these critters @Bilbo ?

The internet has a massive online ID presence, but I recognise most of my insects, but use the web to narrow down sub species or genus variants.

There also an app called "ISEEK" on android and apple that can ID lots of insects.
