Boss photos you've taken

Off to Colorado again in 3 weeks, Idaho's been cancelled by mutual consent (Canada's been on fire, don't want to deal with the smoke); some of the areas we go in CO. have roads to them that are still currently closed, due to all the snow, so should have some decent pics when we get back. Apparently the mosquito's are a problem, though, so could be interesting.

Yep. Gotta be careful swimming in Australian waters. They recommend to never swim on beaches that are not patrolled.

Up north in the tropics, there's not only sharks but also salt water crocodiles. Oh, and the Box Jelly Fish.
It's not that bad, more people drown than get killed by all the animals put together. You are much more likely to encounter a deadly rip tide than a great white.

I ain't swimming in a river in the NT though 🐊

I didn't suggest that sharks are chomping on people every day of the week - only that it does happen & we are advised to be be cautious

We are warned to not swim alone, not to swim early morning or at dusk. There is a reason why NSW beaches have shark nets & are patrolled by drones & helicopters. As I previously indicated, you could swim 100 times in the Georges River at the back of my place & nothing happen, however bull sharks have been found in there & the signs warn people not to swim. I certainly wouldn't chance it.

In 2021 there were 24 "incidents" involving sharks & people - meaning people were bitten. Three died of their injuries. The bloke attacked at Little Bay was the first to die at a Sydney beach in 60yrs. Stats for 2022 are yet to be released.

You are quite correct, people are more likely to drown than end up on the menu of a Great White. I wouldn't go swimming in the NT or north QLD either!

Sorry mate, didn't mean to make it seem like I was having a go at you, it was more aimed at those that seem to think every beach has its own community of sharks waiting to eat us.

If only they knew it is the drop bears on the way to the beach that are the real concern 😳

Martholme Viaduct, Great Harwood

The disused historic structure on the East Lancashire skyline was reopened to walkers in 2017 after having been closed for more than 16 years. Martholme Viaduct was reopened following six months of restoration work. The grade II-listed structure stands over the River Calder and allows wonderful views towards Simonstone, Accrington, Whalley and Great Harwood.

The 300 metre-long walkway was closed in 2001 following a foot and mouth outbreak.

The viaduct was completed in 1877 and consists of 10 rounded arches, each around 12 metres wide. It once served trains running on the North Lancashire Loop, also known as the Great Harwood Loop, a nine-mile route through the town, as well as Simonstone and Padiham. It last carried trains in 1964. Part of the Netflix series "The Stranger" (Episode 4) was filmed on location here.

The viaduct was originally intended to be a wooden construction, but was eventually built of sandstone rubble.

Paul.

Yeh should be 2-3 degrees higher next weekend. It was really humid even with heavy cloud cover yesterday. Pollen was very high too if you’s have hayfever.

There`s four distances over the weekend, the shorter ones are on Saturday, the marathon and ultra marathon are on Sunday.

They go through the forests and lowland fells, so the forests create sun traps and a shield from the wind.

Fortunately with it being my lads first one, we`re only doing a 15k, which takes us up and around the base of the Old Man.

The heat on Sunday for the longer races, will cause a few problems for the organisers though, as the heat plays havoc with the runners, even the experienced ones.

“only doing a 15k” - way too modest 😉😉😉!
