Bought the England Vs Argentina match from 2002 on DVD for £0.49 from Amazon. Just watched the penalty (Complete with melodramatic "flash backs" of the Hand of God and Beckham getting sent off in 98), and still laugh when Motson yells "They're smashing the crockery at home!" or some other such guff. 86 will always be the best for me. I think it had the best collection of great players on show, Platini, Maradonna, Zico, Sanchez, Elkjaer, Dasayev and the rest.
I dont like the World Cup these days, the glamour has gone out of it for me. It used to be great having to wait for years to see all the exotic players you never got to see week in and week out. Seeing the likes of Socrates on TV or Belanov etc was a great treat. And you would have African teams with mad rituals coming out of nowhere putting on a great show.
Nowadays football is so over saturated. I found it quite sad when Angola qualified for a world cup a few years back and some of their players were from League 1 and 2.
They are still watchable of course but the magic has gone.

I still say that on a personal level, it was Italia 90. My first World Cup, went out thinking I was a pretty streetwise little 18 year old lid, but came back having learned shed loads and having had a riot for almost a month.
But also really loved watching Spain 82 and Mexico 86 as a kid, glued to the telly and jibbing off school and homework for a month. Magical times, that only a World Cup in a kid's eyes can bring.
Far too commercialised now. I'm thinking of sacking off Brazil next summer, and doing Copa America (Chile) and/or Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco) in 2015 instead.
