The sport seriously needs a whole new restructuring, Especially the heavyweight division anyway. It's already at it's worst level for fighters anyway and then you throw in the likes of 'Fury' and 'Joshua' and they have just killed it with there non stop demands and re-match clauses, at least with 'Joshua' the numpty has gone and blown his career himself, by being found out so easily.Yep, it's killing the division, and as a result of it being the most high profile, the sport.
They should strip Fury of his belt.
Agree pretty much 100% but think maybe a little harsh on Joshua, who I'm not a fan of, but he's fought everyone in front of him other than Tyson and Wilder. Wilder is on record saying he avoided him, and given Fury's track record I'm inclined to think it was down to Fury rather than Joshua that that fight never happened when it should've. Joshua doesn't seem to have had problems making fights with anyone else. The sport seriously needs a whole new restructuring, Especially the heavyweight division anyway. the whole point of the 'Mandatory' fights is so there is actual ways for fighters to get a title shot in flooded divisions, but re-match clauses kills that idea.
Finally along comes 'Usyk' moving up from Cruserweight, a boxer who just wants to fight the best and be the best rather then caring about the Fame that surrounds it.
I can read 'Fury' like a book, I knew he was gonna throw out the Retirement call and I didn't for a second believe it. things just went a bit quiet on the whole ' Fury Headlines' and he couldn't handle it so he needed a story to get people talking about him again.
There has to be more control by the board rather then the boxers, and if a belt holder won't fight the biggest fights they lose the belt like they would with mandatory fights.
Would love to see 'Usyk' give up his belts just so he can go and become mandatory in the WBC, be funny to see what 'Furey' would do then.
Soz about the rant there but it drives me insane ( and don't even get me started on boxers fighting youtubers
Gomez v Giles was decent. Otherwise distinctly “meh”.How’s the card been tonight? Missed it all but just got in for main event now. Not Okolie’s biggest fan but be interesting to see how he’s improved under Sugar Hill.
Matchroom/Eddie Hearn and Sky were a match made in heaven. Ben Shalom is dull as dish water and the fact he went all out to get Okolie and build a platform around him says everything you need to know.Half empty arena for a title fight involving two undefeated fighters.
Shocking promotion.
