Boxing

Special fighter. He'll destroy Tapales to become undisputed. Undisputed at two weights in 12 months, no male has been undisputed at 2 weights in the four belt era, mental. Crawford might do that on Saturday in fairness but to do it within a year is daft.

It’s been a great year for boxing this year with massive fights happening and been made.

Who is everyone picking between Crawford vs Spence? Always thought Crawford would be to good but Spence is massive at that weight. Bud is gonna target the body and will hurt Spence a lot.

Not many in the UK though.
Boxing in a pretty dire state here at the minute

You reckon? Been loads of big fights made over here this year. Problem is, to many platforms in the UK to keep up with now.

Also, apart from the usual stars, not a lot of other fights have a great promotional background and haven’t got a big enough profile to get people interested in them.

I think it’s been on of the best years for boxing on a world scale for a very long time. Fights getting made that people wanted to see for a while and big fights finally happening.

what big fights have there been over here? beterbiev v yarde?!
there are no stars imo. fury is just a joke, joshua looks finished. taylor lost his title.
matchrooms stable is terrible compared to a few years back, hearn has taken is eye of the ball with the launch of DAZN

Agree with this. Compared to a few years ago it’s awful.

Had a boom with the guys from the london Olympics going pro and other likeable fighters like Brook and Frampton about. We had about 15 world champions and more than America at one point.

Been loads of really good domestic fights, yes we haven’t had the biggest of stars over here recently but been some great fights with domestic fighters involved. Can’t ask for much more than the fighters fighting the best in the respective division.

It’s harder to keep up with who’s fighting who and what fights have been made but as boxing fans can only ask that the best fight the best, and they have. Personally think it’s been a great year of boxing so far. Globally it’s been a brilliant year for boxing with huge fights been made.

Agreed on the star aspect of it, I do think that Sky losing matchroom and Hearn has had a massive impact on the sport over here in recent years. Whatever anyone’s opinions on it, is that they were a match made in heaven. I think boxing lacks stars in general right now, apart from Canelo, fury, Joshua, Tank, Garcia and possibly Lomachenko, not a lot of big stars in the sport.

We’ve got the biggest and best fight to be made in boxing this weekend, and apart from boxing fans, casuals and die hards, there isn’t much excitement about it.

Once we started dominating boxing over here again, it was only a matter of time before the Americans got back involved in boxing and ruin the sport.

Personally I do think this year it’s been a great year for fights been made. Sadly, fans don’t seem to be interested unless it’s the usual big names involved. That’s what is crippling the sport along with, to many networks, promoters and people involved that cause to much damage for the sport.

Like this week alone we’ve had Fulton vs Inoue that was a massive fight and got Crawford vs Spence. That’s two massive fights for Boxing in the space of a week. That’s brilliant for the sport. Sadly Fulton hasn’t got a massive profile but he’s an excellent and quality fighter. That fight should have been bigger. Crawford vs Spence doesn’t seem to have a massive buzz about it either.

Totally agree over here. To be fair, I don’t think there is money for boxing over here from the networks anymore. Think it’s all dried up.

Only way can get a big star over is to offer huge money that can’t do unless it’s a stadium show and PPV. Usyk was probably the last P4P ranked fighter to fight on these shores. We’ve gone from having Usyk, Golovkin, Lomachenko, Spence and Crawford fighting over here to nobody. The Americans jumping on the back of the success of British boxing didn’t help and neither does the huge money Saudi Arabia is offering.

UK boxing is losing fans to the UFC in droves. Fury ducking the big fights is killing UK boxing IMO. I know he's not the only draw but the biggest fight on the planet could have happened anytime in the last 3 years in the UK and they've been kept apart either by promoters protected their asset or a fighter deep down scared to lose whatever legacy he thinks he has.

A few years back British boxing was brilliant, seemed to be a boss card every 6 weeks. Even the cards on Eddie Hearns back lawn during covid seem like they were more exciting than it has been lately.

The problem Fury has, although he’s the best in his division, commercially he’s not gonna draw massive money. Yes, he can sell out a stadium, but it’s not gonna generate the money he wants to fight unless he goes to Saudi. Even then, he’s not a commercial draw so he won’t get the money he wants. With him been banned from entering America, he’s not gonna get the money he wants to fight Usyk at a stadium here. Rubbish really. Stadium revenue and tv revenue won’t reach what he wants.

It’s not that we are losing fans to the UFC, it’s promoted different so fighters with loses still have a big profile, so in the mind of fans, a loss doesn’t matter. It’s all under one house so fights are easier to be made. If a mma fighter had a bad fight, he doesn’t get the over hype, not very good, he’s rubbish him etc a boxer does. That’s what the main difference is. Not because the sport is better, fighters in the ufc have better profiles and a full organisation behind them, boxers don’t. A fighter in the ufc loses a fight, it’s a ah well, a boxer loses, he loses fans and says he’s a hype train and not very good.

This year in boxing has had some of the best fights made but doesn’t get the profile for some reason. It’s sad.

If you are a fan you'll make the effort like with a smallish double like was on on Friday night. Boxing like everything else goes through cycles, remember when Wiggins and Froome were laying waste to the TdF? Every sloane ranger and manic karen were suddenly about cycling and the benefits to health and goodness and light etc. Flavour of the month stuff. Boxing allows more character to come across if the boxer has any. What isn't helping is the lapse doping issues. A lot of people rolled their eyes and groaned when Benn jnr failed a suspected test and the Eubank jnr fight was off. In six weeks time or so we've the Union World Cup - England make the quarters and every henry, caruthers, and tarquin will be out in force on the pimms regaling whoevers in earshot about the good old days of salt of the earth types like Wilkinson and Johnson and how blue blooded and spiffing chaps they were.
The morons that are prompted by the gutter press for whatever hate is peddled that day are the same scrotes cajoled into partisanship by the very same rags when any sporting success is within sight. England roll Aus over last weekend and it'd have been pandemonium with hype for the decider.
