Boxing

I think both of them have benefitted from it being an era devoid of many really good fighters, not sure how either would have lived with peak versions of Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Holyfield, Holmes etc
You could say the same about Tyson. The heavyweight division he cleaned up was horrific.

He beat Trevor Berbick to win his first title. An era with Tony TNT Tubbs etc, Frank Bruno, it was garbage.

Usyk and Fury would have both beaten Tyson IMO

Nah mate, whilst Tyson did benefit from a division that was at a weak point over the past twenty years, he absolutely tire through it and was for a brief time a force of nature, was never quite the same after he split with Rooney and D'amato was no longer around also - think he left Clayton too around the same time and after that King had his hooks into him and he was on the pretty rapid decline.

A 21-22yo Tyson I'm honestly not sure I've ever seen a heavyweight id have picked against him - and that includes the guys from the 70s-now.

A lot of people are clouded these days about the Tyson from the decline, post Robin Givens/King etc.

A young Tyson though was as close to a perfect fighting machine as I've seen ( even though I don't really like heavyweight boxing much compared to other weights either)

I get your point.

Still think the division was so weak it made him look better. Not too dissimilar to how Joshua ended up being champion.

Liking early days explosive tyson is like liking ben johnson for his sprinting career.

Nah Johnson was an obvious drug cheat from the way he went from being a middling athlete to the best in the world - Tyson was just living and breathing boxing until all his team around him protecting him from the piranhas git their claws into a very very emotionally stunted 'kid'. After that he went off the rails and well the rest is history on choices he made

In some ways yea, but I also think the division was made to look a bit weaker than it was due to Holmes being such a dominant champion - combined with pretty much all the other top contenders having issues - Page, Witherspoon and Tubbs were tremendously gifted fighters who just loved the pies and twinkies more than training.

But look at how Tyson tore trough that division, Berbick was an avoided fighter - Tyson knocked him out twice with one pinch, Bonecrusher Smith and Tucker both fought to not get knocked out after tasting his power early on, think two unbeaten Olympic gold medalist got knocked out in slaughters - Biggs and Spinks - Spinks a great fighter - an all time great light heavyweight as well, Holmes one of the best ever got destroyed - although ageing at that point. A few other destructions if Williams and Bruno - Bruno had lost before but by being clocked late on when tiring, Tyson simply ripped him to shreds.

Look at Joshua's records and his best wins I'm not sure any of those beat the guys I've listed above.

Longevity wise Tyson won't ever be regarded like an Alli or Marciano/Holmes, but a bit like Foreman for a brief time was may be one the best I've ever seen.

tyson admitted to taking the same anabolic steroids as johnson.

Care to share when he has ever admitted that?

It's often been a rumour he did post prison - as he went from looking like a normal athlete into one that looked ripped, but that's post prison first retirement anyways and doesn't effect his early career when he clearly wasn't on anything if you just look at his physique.

But again to my knowledge he has never ever admitted he took anything and has never tested positive for any performance enhancer either.
