Brands stamps his authority

It looked like in Monday's press conference that's brands was the boss to me maybe am wrong on that ?
No, you're right. Which is a concern.

In answer at the press conference to a question on WC attendance and activity there:

Silva: "Marcel I think will be a busy man"
Brands: "Perhaps".

Mini-smackdown right there.

...and the fact that Silva was NOT Brands choice in reality makes me even more concerned.

The issue I see that we are trying to fix is just that.
A manager is concerned with the last game and the next result. Lord knows we saw enough of that under BFS!
The job of the DoF is to have a longer term plan and approach that potentially spans several seasons and perhaps even outlasts the managers tenure. The DoF is the football 'architect' in an IT sense, whereas the manager is the 'implementer'.
Currently I think we are seeing the manifestation of them both starting at the same time but I think once footy commences Silva will be clearly in charge. The off season is when the DoF should have a bigger role to play.
That's an abstraction of the role and thinking of a manager though. What manager just plans from game to game? They have a holistic view of the team and where they want it to go.

the last bit concerns me too..

but I feel confident that if Brands sees thro Silva's tactics, then he will be gone in the first few weeks of the season.

he will have given Moshiri's man a chance, but will not be wanting to be made to llok a fool with an inept manager.

he will change it right away to a man of his choosing. this is why Brands will be signing HIS players and not getting in all the players only the manager wants.

no more plucky little everton now ...

...and yet he talks of less churn....

It's a hell of a dilemma....

only this once mate.

it moshiri's pick, one to me which makes no sense at all, but Brands has had to accept this one.

if he is struggling tactically and can not instigate Brands way of doing things then he will get the boot.

brands will already have someone in mind I am sure of this.

its all down to Silva to make this work.. and I'm sure he knows he has too otherwise he is gone.

no more shipping 2 goals for everyone scored. he is defo going to have to change his set up here.

Brands will most likely insist on a meeting between him and Silva every Monday morning to dissect that weekends performance, where we went wrong and where we did well etc etc etc..

with Brands pointing out where the improvements need to be made and what to work on.

afterall, that is what we hired brands for, he is a proven winner and good at his job

@davek

imagine walsh tryna tell koeman where he went wrong on a Monday, koeman would probly answer back,

'yesh, those 4 bogiesh on the back nine didn't help my scoreshh'

He's also aware of the fact that if he wants to sack Silva early then he's on a three year contract at £3M p.a. and that would add another massive compo payment on top of the massive pay off mountain run up already....and he's the man brought in to REDUCE wages and costs.

...dilemma....

I’d agree fully if he was onboard in role without the DoF. Brands is there to assist the club, they will have boundaries and if they were to cross they can talk like grown adults. Silva signed on knowing he’d have Brands so he can’t expect everything he wants.

I hope he is ruthless with the lot of them so they know laying down to so called hard away games is not gonna wash with him we have been to soft for to long

Brands made clear he will not buy a player the manager does not want but he buys the players meaning the manager can only get a player if Brands agrees. Simple.

Will Unsworth and Brands have the same type of relationship as Silva and Brands.

Ultimately in a perfectly ran organisation, most of the players for the first team would be produced from the youth set up. Now I presume that Brands will know what type of players we are weak in or will become weak in as first teamers age or become injury prone or it makes sense to move on. In this sense Brands has to work out with each manager what needs bringing in and how it will fit into the grand plan.

This may be replicated at several age groups with that age groups manager. I really don't think that long term he will be able to interfere with Silva's authority over playing performance and will be for all intents and purposes a manager in the mold that we're used to.

My instant sense is that Brands knows his remit and duties and will do that job. I presume that Silva knows the same. At the moment the first team needs major work. I expect Brands and Silva will be working a lot of time together before the new season starts. After this I think we'll be getting nothing but Silva.

its absolutely no dilemma at all.

it will be a moshiri mistake and HE will have to pay for it.

brands has got a free run regards Silva, as he has been put on him.

Well, yes and no. Yes he signed up with Brands and whatever he sees as his role; however he also was pursued way before this more hands on DoF role was in place.

From that p.o.v. it potentially leaves a lot of room for cross wires in the future.

Not so soon after another massive pay out. We'd have to be dancing on the trapdoor for Moshiri to allow Brands to sack Silva.

brands has been chased a lot longer than silva.

silva could of been coming in to work alongside walsh..

brands appointment is nothing new to the way we operate, just that we will operate a lot more efficiently from now.
