This can devolve pretty quick at this point. Some background from the US:

Our perception is that burning a nation's flag is offensive behavior. By way of history and culture, burning ours for purposes of protest is particularly offensive to most of us Yanks for the same reasons that cause a lot of folks to not be partial to us Yanks anyway. It is what it is. The cultures that openly hate us do it, and they aren't stupid. They know exactly what they are doing and why - they're sending a message, then something blows up.

The blerts behind the Kop didn't know what the hell they were actually doing in the eyes of us Yanks - they're just some blert Kopites wound up about H & G. They will be easily confused in the states with those elsewhere who know exactly what they are saying when they torch the flag for our entertainment. Is that what our RS morons were saying? Now explain all that to 300 million Americans who don't know who Arsene Wenger is.

Most of us old farts were brought up knowing precisely how to handle the flag, how to store it, display it, and dispose of it when worn past further use. It's part of the culture. We un-selfconsciously consider ourselves to be patriots, and there are many who would consider the concept of patriotism to be risible or antique. I get all that. You may be unaware of the larger implications if the images go viral in certain US quarters, whether you like those folks or not. All they will hear is Liverpool. All they will see is a burning flag. They won't even notice the red shirts - they'll just think that they're just a bunch of Red Socialists or something (hi, LCAB! RED socialists - not BLUE socialists - makes all the diff y'know?).

All I know is that there are some massive blerts burning flags / trampling over flags with no justification. And some equally massive blerts (Goat) commenting too.

Have seen the above quoted on several forums in the USA.... etc. It seems it did well in showing many yanks that not everyone on merseyside are blerts

All i can see is press reporting on it, and people arguing on forums as to whether it was actions of a few blerts or just a piece of cloth.

The point being is it really going to do any damage to the club in the long term once the behavior of a few idiots gets forgotten?

maybe someone forgot to tell that guy that BP isn't a wholly British company, infact it is at least 40% American after the purchase of Amoco (Standard oil of Indiana), several directors of which are on the BP board, and at least two other American companies.

Just like what that moron was doing associating the British Flag with BP - which incidentally is not "British Petroleum" and hasn't been for over 10 years its now "Beyond Petroleum"... and incidentally the whole things been thrown up through the use of the SWISS operators of Deepwater horizon, Anadarko Petroleum (based in TEXAS, USA) and Halliburton another enormous AMERICAN company - ALL INVOLVED WITH WHATS HAPPENED.


What happens when ill informed idiotic morons, unable to communicate properly - want to make a statement and vent frustration?

The flag normally gets it.

Because they're idiots they end up insulting everyone. Like I said. Blerts.


Oh and British deaths in combat in Afghanistan = 296 (as of yesterday) , American deaths 1090.
