Welcome back Wayne
He’s 67 and his family has announced he has dementia…my wife had a similar confirmation this year. It is a terrible disease that takes away the person you knew. I can only sympathise with his family as they try and come to terms with the situation. The stress, tiredness, emotional anguish the family will go through you would not visit upon anyone tbh….He will never recover, they can only try to slow it down, it’s not called the ‘long goodbye’ for nothing……

It is shame mate it is like alzamer.

O that's awful, I had read about him having health issues.
I was at an event last week that included a talk from National Museums Liverpool called House Of Memories, about helping people with dementia try and pick up on a memory, try and find things that might trigger a response.
I remember one of my friends dad's suffered with dementia and he was telling me the only thing he could ever get a response from was talking about the RAF, that he had been in.

It was rumoured for a long time, and why he had a long run of really [Poor language removed] films, he is barely in, with lines fed to him via earpiece. It's been coming a long time and the guy did what he had to to provide for his family.

Poor end for a massive Hollywood icon.

The most hateful disease possible. When your mum forgets who you are you realise how despicable it is.*

*not helped by 2 years of lockdown where visits to old folks homes were made difficult .... while Boris and his mates partied on.

Sorry to hear of your wife's diagnosis Pete. It is a cruel disease.

Really sorry to hear about your wife Pete.

I second that, watched my Dad suffer with it, think it's worse for the person who is the sole carer, bought out an horrible side in my Mom as she struggled to cope, hope you get the best support you can Pete xx

Very sad news. Sorry to hear about your wife too @peteblue and all the rest of you having to cope with family members or loved ones suffering with this. Wish the best for all of you

Thanks guys, appreciated.….

Thats a tough diagnosis for you to deal with @peteblue I'm sorry to hear that. It's the family that get the rough end of the deal with dementia.

I was listening to a discussion recently about how music therapy is proving a really great help to patients suffering dementia, while they've lost memories and recognition, the brain still seem to respond to music and songs, such as remembering the words to songs and memories associated with music - first dance at their wedding etc.
