Thats a tough diagnosis for you to deal with @peteblue I'm sorry to hear that. It's the family that get the rough end of the deal with dementia.

I was listening to a discussion recently about how music therapy is proving a really great help to patients suffering dementia, while they've lost memories and recognition, the brain still seem to respond to music and songs, such as remembering the words to songs and memories associated with music - first dance at their wedding etc.

Yes, my wife still sings or dances to music she knows….

Yes. Anecdotally, I have found this to be true.
My grandmother has dementia which has worsened dramatically since Christmas. Putting on some Dean Martin seems to really help and provide her some happiness and cheers her up. Makes the visits easier since unfortunately she gotten to the point that she doesn’t know who I am anymore

He’s 67 and his family has announced he has dementia…my wife had a similar confirmation this year. It is a terrible disease that takes away the person you knew. I can only sympathise with his family as they try and come to terms with the situation. The stress, tiredness, emotional anguish the family will go through you would not visit upon anyone tbh….He will never recover, they can only try to slow it down, it’s not called the ‘long goodbye’ for nothing……
My condolences, Pete.

The mother of one of my good mates has early dementia and it’s heartbreaking.

Terrible news, but at least his career / wealth will enable his family to have the vey best care available.
It’s families who can’t afford round the clock carers I truely feel for.
hope the nature of his celebrity shines a light on this for other less fortunate sufferers.

@peteblue This seems to be a roundabout way of telling us that you wife was diagnosed some time ago. Why didn’t you tell us? We are very supportive. Best wishes.

We guessed for some while, went through the process and the brain scans but the final diagnosis of Dementia/Alzheimer’s only happened late January. I did let the folks in the Messymascot know about it because tbh we didn’t know what to do/behave and we’ve been learning ever since. This thread though I was genuinely upset to see Bruce Willis given the same diagnosis as I always loved him as an actor ……

Tough going and a life experience I thankfully haven’t had to walk personally.

You have been blessed to have met her, raised kids with her and made your life.

She chose you for a reason and don’t you forget that.

Never will mate, we celebrated 50 years of marriage last year…we’ve had a good life and now just have a different one in front of us….
