Just watched an episode of that "Jamie's ministry of food". Are all Brits that dumb that they can't cook an omelette?:lol:

If you eat at the canteen where I work you would think us Brits can't cook. If you came to our house for dinner you'd see we can cook a lot better than that stupid cockney spiv, so can most people in this country. That boy does us no favours, as my dearest says "that boy needs a good plate of scouse down him, then beat the crap out of him with the pan".

Never argue with a Kirkby Girl(y)

ive been involved in catering since i was a baby....literally.i only stopped doing it a few years ago.

i went to college to train as a chef , even though i left after a couple of months (personal reasons) i ran rings round the trainers and was actually showing the level 2 ponces how to cook.

the trouble with cooking in britain in that proper cooking has been sacrificed to poncey food.

this is down to tv idiots like jamie oliver , i cant stand the bloke , he's condescending and not very good anyway imo.

ainsley harries= crap (not even a cook) , worral thompson = crap , jamie oliver = crap
even gordon ramsey (who is a good chef) has gone down hill and has turned poncey.

gary rhodes is by far the only tv chef worth listening too imo.
the best chef of the lot is marco pierre white....seriously good.

as for british cooking - i will put the best british dishes against any dish from around the world.

ps if i ever met jamie oliver i would spit in his face ,the jumped up little prick.

I cant cook an omelette. Mainly because they are gross so i'd never need to know how. I'd struggle to boil and egg as well but i do a cracking beans on toast.

I think Brits cooking is like every where else in the world some are great others are poor.I personally enjoy cooking.the Chefs on TV are embarrishing though. If Jamie Oliver cooked dinner I would not feed the dog with it.I enjoy having meals from different places but feel; our meals are up there with the rest.when we have guest coming and I ask what they prefer as many want a roast leg of Lamb as do a Currie or a chili(mind you I do like mine spicy)(y)

No you wouldn't.

That aside. Fair play to Jamie Oliver. There are people that can't cook and can't provide healthy meals for their children.

He is attempting to rectify that. It's a small effort, but fair play to him, its his own time, money and initiative he is using there.
If he really feels he is making a positive change in people's lives, and by all accounts he is, then I've got nothing but respect for him.

All politics and poncey cooking this and that aside, some people in this land are just not bright and can't cook and have never bothered their arse to learn, but don't mind popping out a few kids...

That's not fair on the kids. This thing Jamie is doing is going someway to attempting to fix it, and if nothing else is highlighting some basic failings in our society that there are people that need help, basic living help, day to day stuff.
It's not all about giving people money or somewhere to live or helping sick kids in a foreign country or providing international aid. If our own citizens are unable to help themselves, however are they expected to be able to help others.

People are too quick to jump on individuals that try and effect change, yet they are quite happy themselves to sit on their arse and watch the world turn ugly around them. Then moan about it.

first , trust me , yes i would.

second , he is using his own time and money ? its a career for him , thats the bottom line , and he also makes a lot of money from it.
also it's tax payers money which pays for his crackpot schemes.
we pay enough tax to schemes that dont work already.

also if theres a problem with obesity and junk food , then surely it comes down to education ?
schools should teach proper health and fitness and healthy cooking.

healthy lifestyle should be tought by official's not some lisping nobody who is trying to make a career out of being sycophantic.

i do all the cooking in my house , and i try to balance the meals out.

we grow all our own veg and herbs so i use a lot of fresh ingredients.

i might have a bit of junk food once a week. perhaps on a friday or saturday night we would have an indian.

btw , ever tried making a chinese takeaway curry ?
its almost impossible to get the flavour the same unless you go to a chinese super market and buy there curry paste. its like a green block of butter (probably 100 %msg)

ps i honestly cant remember the last time i had chips. although i do like a good bangers and mash every now and again.

I personally enjoy cooking. 2nd only to the eating !!

there are a lot who cant cook and dont want to. i know someone who lives in her nice 5 bed detached, has done for 9 years now, her oven is unused, grill has for cheese on toast. she got a new kitchen and her oven she got rid of ........unused. they eat takeaways, pub meals and microwave pizza's, their kids are the fussiest eaters on the planet, only a couple of things they will eat....no matter where they are eating.
one thing any aussie or kiwi would be horrified at over here is our supermarkets, all the frozen processed [Poor language removed], the canned processed [Poor language removed] and the ready meal [Poor language removed].
their supermarkets have far more fresh produce as in fruit and veg, fish & meat with hardly anything in tins or frozen. saying that they do like a takeaway and i reckon there'd be a fair few over there that cant cook as well.
we eat as much fresh stuff as possible and in a lot of cases organic, the kids have never had a 'nugget' , 'dipper', 'pot noodle' etc.

You really do learn something new about the posters on here every day.

uknightbreed's been posting on here for over a year and I never knew that about him.

I'm a fantastic cook, my cooking abilities have been known to make the most frigid of women as moist as an Ecuadorian rain forest in rainy season.
