Goat

Player Valuation: £380m

Fans will be urged to travel to the stadium via bicycle or public transport and eat only vegan food when Spurs host Chelsea in the Premier League on 19 September.

It is part of a plan to make the game the world's first net zero carbon fixture at elite level.
The clubs are working with broadcaster Sky to cut emissions around the match.

Fans will also be urged to take positive steps to reduce their own carbon footprint.

Both sets of players will arrive at the stadium on coaches powered by biofuel, and will be drinking water from more sustainable cartons rather than plastic bottles.

Food kiosks inside the stadium will also be offering a large selection of plant-based food options so fans can make a more sustainable choice.

Worlds gone mad.

What pointless yet typically modern virtue signalling. They'd do better to get their squads cycling to European ties rather than jetting off everywhere. Better still, make their squads local lads, rather than mercenaries travelling the world to kick a bladder.

How much CO2 did building that new stadium generate? That’s a lot of concrete and steel. No offsetting that. Wish people would stop pretending to care about things to virtue signal…

How is it virtue signalling?

I dont think you understand the term
"Oh look at us, we're all bothered about the environment, so much so that we want all our fans to be (specifically) vegan, because the person who thought sell this up is a vegan and he wants everybody to see how vegan he is and everybody else should be a vegan too, even though Chelsea fans are terrible racist thugs and the football industry encourages hundreds of thousands into air travel to watch a hobby at dreadful environmental cost it doesn't matter because we'll be vegan for a day and we've asked you to cycle to the match."

I understand virtue signalling. I don't understand how you don't see this hollow, hypocritical tokenism as such.

Doing something no matter how slight and at the same time raising a bit of awareness is a good thing, it isn't 'virtue signalling' at all. Why is it that certain people see anything done as a positive as 'virtue signalling' ?

No wonder the world's a toilet

Earlier in 2021, Tottenham were named the Premier League's greenest club after they topped a table measuring the sustainability of all 20 top-flight sides.

They recently signed up to the United Nations' Sports for Climate Action framework, which gives sports organisations a set of targets to reach to make themselves more sustainable businesses.

TBF to spurs they've the most environmentally friendly stadiums in Europe and they've made other commitments to reduce plastic etc. Its a start but its not just a one off for the cameras. Presumably the Chelsea game was chosen as it'd be difficult to convince fans to cycle from the North of England.

If every club in the 4 divisions did the same virtual signalling it'd actually make quite a big impact.

Yeah as someone who has taught about environmental problems for 30 years, - I really want to be lectured to by billionaire organisations that have contributed to it in part, and now want to make waves just because its trendy and they get good publicity. I see the good in it if course, but they're turd.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for reducing traffic - and endlessly increasing numbers of European football matches (for Sky's benefit of course) with associated flights.
