Carbon neutral lettuce eating

Yeah as someone who has taught about environmental problems for 30 years, - I really want to be lectured to by billionaire organisations that have contributed to it in part, and now want to make waves just because its trendy and they get good publicity. I see the good in it if course, but they're turd.
It's not 'virtue signalling'. Thats a tory/Laurence Fox saying to anyone trying to make a change for the good in the modern day and I despise it.

TBF to spurs they've the most environmentally friendly stadiums in Europe and they've made other commitments to reduce plastic etc. Its a start but its not just a one off for the cameras. Presumably the Chelsea game was chosen as it'd be difficult to convince fans to cycle from the North of England.

If every club in the 4 divisions did the same virtual signalling it'd actually make quite a big impact.
They've just built a stadium, of which the carbon/pollution generated can never be offset by the actions of the club. Hollow virtue signalling.

Its just like the Scots saying "ah yes, we have one of the largest wind farms anywhere in the world" whilst failing to mention that they cut down 14 million odd tress in the past 3-5 years to make them (meaning that the wind farm can legitimately never offset it's carbon footprint compared to if they just left the trees there)

Is that the same Scotland that planted 272 million trees in the same period (which is actually 20 years, not 3-5)
I'm sure there's a legitimate reason you failed to mention those 2 things though

Mr Levy and the board are taking the number 149 bus to the ground and leaving the Bentleys at home I heard.

I don't mind vegan food although I have never managed to eat a whole one.

Can't have glass bottles as those nasty working class types might throw them....but plastic is environmentally unfriendly....so we have to drink via moisture absorption.

I will be driving to the station, overground to London, overground to WHL and then the reverse. Chicken and chips or Jerk Chicken depending on the route taken and a couple of pints.

I could walk it but it would take 21 hours. In each direction.

It reminds me a lot of Earth hour. It started as a little project in Sydney for one hour a year, and quickly became a global effort.
The founders of Earth hour admit the intention was not to make a major dent in the carbon footprint, it was purely a symbolic gesture.

The end result of that symbolic gesture (or virtue signalling if you prefer) is a 4% reduction in electricity usage globally during the hour.

Not huge in the grand scheme of things, but coming from one small gesture - it is very significant.

"Oh look at us, we're all bothered about the environment, so much so that we want all our fans to be (specifically) vegan, because the person who thought sell this up is a vegan and he wants everybody to see how vegan he is and everybody else should be a vegan too, even though Chelsea fans are terrible racist thugs and the football industry encourages hundreds of thousands into air travel to watch a hobby at dreadful environmental cost it doesn't matter because we'll be vegan for a day and we've asked you to cycle to the match."

I understand virtue signalling. I don't understand how you don't see this hollow, hypocritical tokenism as such.
Eating vegetarian stuff for a couple hours isn't having it forced on you.

They don't want local nasty working class types at the game full stop.

They want well heeled middle-class tourists who will spend loads at the club shop, on top of hundreds of pounds for a match ticket.

They will also lap up this type of 'gesturing'.

Hoards of these people fly in for Liverpool home games, as a prime example of how football has now become a bourgeoise pastime.
