This is the smart approach.

It might sound mad but I do worry a little over Ancelotti. He is used to managing world class players to win trophies. We are a long long way off that currently. He has flopped a bit at Napoli, and we are in a worse position than them.

If they get Ancelotti they are going to need to buy some top players to work with him.

Getting Ancelotti and some top players for him to work with is fine by me.

It's a legitimate question to ask whether he would be up for it but I'd much rather trust the bona fides of a manager with his CV than another punt.

I don't think we'll get Ancelotti but if there was genuine interest on his part I'm sure we could work out a salary package with him and he might just feel that it would be another string to a glittering career if he came to us and put us on a sure footing and on an upward trend, where several others have tried and failed.

There is a huge uplift to getting it right at Everton and there will be huge kudos to the manager that achieves it.

As for being the right man for Everton, when has Ancelotti ever taken over a side in the bottom half and led them up the table? If we had £750m to spend he'd be great.

I genuinely don't know who they would have if they're criticising Ancelotti. Nobody is perfect and there'll always be concerns, but by God this is a different level.
