Carlo Ancelotti

I think the only, fair question is how will he do managing a team that is not in the 3 or 4 most talented in its league having not done that in 20 years. I mean the last time he did was when Buffon was his keeper at Parma. It's been a long time.
Yes, that's a fair question.

But that doesn't mean it's a bad hire. It shows intent.

Sometimes it's not the outcome, but the process. And in this case, the process which led us to consider bringing in a guy like Carlo can only be viewed as a positive one.

WIll it work out? Who knows. But no one can convince me that on Day One this is somehow a bad move by Everton Football Club

* He prefers 4-4-2.
* He's managed literally more big names than anyone in football right now - Rufus Smalls, Kevin Tonkinson, Gary Wackett

As soon as I saw the top line......

It would be a legitimate question if there was no talent within the Everton squad.

We have some very talented players and a few problem areas with a general lack of balance with the squad.

What we need is a manager to identify and rectify those problems.

Our position does not reflect the quality within the squad.

Some miserable sods on here. No wonder we haven't won anything in 20 odd years. That negative energy translates from fan to club to players. Stop it FFS!

I know what you mean negativity is tedious, and the match threads hurt my eyes just reading them (same for all teams though)! But...

Although I was proud and happy for Dunc, and thought the team deserved credit for fighting back the other night, I said to my Dad (a Liverpool supporter) after the game, for god sake, can the football gods not shine on me for a change, just once?

It was just so perfectly typical of what always seems to happen with Everton! Most teams (playing against us) fight back from 2 nil and go onto win, but when we fight back it's all just engineered to make losing more painful! Leicester miss the first penalty, and we miss the first 2...

I don't mean to be negative about the new manager, I am hopeful, but if I am honest it's hard after 36 years and only one FA cup win in all that time, to go skipping down the street.

Everybody being happy and hopeful kinda makes me feel apprehensive! Rather, like what happened in the game the other night, expectations are rocketing into orbit, but part of me feels kinda like, don't get your hopes up this time! Expect the worst and hopefully, be pleasantly surprised.

Strange thing is that as an Evertonian, the national teams failures, and disappointments also get incorporated into a general feeling of pessimism about football in general. England, and Everton are almost synonymous!

Starts to seem as if I myself am a bad luck charm to whatever team that has the misfortune to be supported by me!

I love that we are going for Ancelotti, and I love that we are raising the bar, and I love the feeling of all the 'mainstream media' saying that it's a surprise and is going to be a mistake...can't wait
but just one thing - does anyone think we can retain this passion and craziness that Dunc has instilled?
A good point, for me personally he has to have big Dunc as assistant manager and to also allow him to be as visible and verbal on the touch line as he is now, under Silva and Koeman I imagine he was told to know his place if you like, but after the last few weeks he has to be allowed to be given a more influential role, surely all good managers have a strong team behind them that are allowed to get stuck in to the team if you like. I can only ever recall seeing Erwin Koeman getting out of his seat once, barely seen anything out of Louis Boa Morte so it would be nice to see a team effort from the sidelines also, understanding of course that Ancelotti is in charge.

I agree with the last sentence entirely but we still aren't nearly as talented as City, the RS etc. There's definitely limitations in how we can play that he didn't have to deal with at other places. I think he can work those out but that is the one thing I worry about.

All the RS in the media are saying the same thing. All the posters on here saying the same are probably RS as well.

You keep making out like it's a RS narrative but Arsenal have gone and appointed Arteta without making a big play for the likes of Ancelotti.

For other clubs looking to change manager, he's not the only option and for some, albeit not many, he's not the obvious choice.

That categorically doesn't mean he's a bad choice for us, or that those people aren't excited by the prospect of one of the greatest coaches of all time leading us.

The two can be mutually exclusive.

Can you tell me one ex-RS player who has said something positive about this?

this could be a real game changer for us.

Top players will want to come and play here under Carlo Ancelotti, players that before were un-getable .

looking forward to climbing the league and hopefully winning a trophy
