Koeman has won things too, but I agree Ancelotti's cv is better. The question is, would that increase in ability cover for a style that to me isn't suited to ourselves.

I am inclined to agree with you.
Arsenal see themselves as a big club with expectations that match. The fans want instant success, they want titles, they want silverware and they want them now. However, it doesn't seem that the Arsenal owners are prepared to release the huge funds needed to make that happen.
I think the Arsenal job is a poison chalice.

The Everton job is very different and can be viewed as a project. We have seen the owner is prepared to spend money and the fanbase will allow some time and accept steady progress for a while before starting to get restless.

I think Ancelotti will look at Arsenal and think that there is no way he can win there. Allegri could look at Arsenal as a longer term project.. as with Emery that may prove to be difficult.
I , also feel that Ancelotti may well believe that the time needed to build up Everton would take too long for a manager of his age , even if he was prepared to work outside of Liverpool and was convinced the Everton project was worthwhile.

Still hoping for Gallardo but I'd be made up with this. Still reckon Arsenal is a better shout but that leaves us the likes of Marcelino, Gallardo and Kovac to go at. Exciting times.

The problem is very few managers out there are the right fit for us.

We want fire and passion on the touchline yet someone proven in a top league who can win trophies.

Only 3 I can think of who match that description are:

Simeone
Klopp
Conte

Neither of them are coming to us anytime soon.

if world class isn't the right fit for what we should be looking to get, what is? standard class? young and unproven?

we've tried and failed with each manager outside of the elite. if there's a chance of elite, we have to try it. we have to.

I get the concerns of people wondering if he'd have the stomach for building us up from essentially scratch when there are more ready made clubs he could just walk in to

I don’t think he is... one of the main Arsenal journo said there not after him..
