No we don't. That's why instead of witsel and Mata we got bolasie and Williams

Literally noone gives a damn about us unless we have something to offer them. Mid table for years means we are a a meaningless club to sign for. Only thing we can attract players with currently is money and a potential stepping stone to a bigger team.

The more attractive we are, the more players sign on merit rather than cash. That's the difference Europe makes, that's what players want in their career. Rather than a back up left back from Barca , we can sign someone's first choice left back if we are glamorous enough.

That's why the top teams sign the best players , because they can offer trophies/ champions League football.

Ha ha ha ha yes we will watch come summer your vaulted, we have CA and therefore we ARE attractive

Mate they're third and looking very likely to be in the champions league next year with a ten point cushion.
But, their form has dipped alarmingly in recent weeks.
They may still get fourth but I think that is by no means certain anymore and I do think they are far too reliant on one player.
Even if Leicester do get to fourth I am still not convinced they are so hugely attractive as a club that they will sign players we can only dream of.

Players want to play in the CL - look at all the fever of Citeh losing Pep and a few top players if they are banned (heck look at us in the 80's).

We'll no doubt be a bigger pitch with Ancelotti for recruits but with Brands trying to cut the wage bill down the days of offering players £120k+ a week deals look to be gone therefore the only other carrot on the stick is European togger which we dont have.

If us and Leicester both go in for the same player its essentially CL football vs Ancelotti.
Certainly CL will attract players, but players will want to be reasonably sure that CL will be a regular option than just one season and then elimination at the group stages.
I would guess that Everton will spend more than Leicester this summer and certainly in recent months Everton will be seen as just as good a destination as Leicester for top quality young players with the emergence of Holgate, DCL,Davies and even John Joe Kenny.

Correct. They've been fortunate and their luck is catching up to them. It's a good starting XI, but you take a player or two away and they aren't good enough.

They have gotten massive fees for players the past 3 years, but they've not spent that much really. They'll get a big fee for Ndidi next, but how well will they spend it? Ricardo Pereira and Maddison were good buys. Tielemans is okay, although very expensive.

Spot on - Leicester and Wolves if given the funds will sign players we can only dream of

Well I'm yet to see any evidence of this thus far.

There is a pecking order in football. Just as we will not necessarily jump to the head of the cue, neither will players be lining up to want to play for Brendan Rodger or Santo over Carlo Ancelotti.

If I'm honest I think we are in a different market for players. If you look at Wolves last set of recruitment it is very young players and extremely speculative. I don't really believe they can compete with us financially and I don't think they want too. Leicester too have targeted slightly younger players than us.

We are looking to buy in slightly more mature players to them, but perhaps bigger names. Ancelotti will help in this regard.

It's clear Europe will make a big difference, but the idea we can't attract players without Europe is probably too strong. If we are in Europe I think players such as Rabiot become an option. Maybe even Koulibaly does whereas without Europe that becomes a lot harder.

It goes without saying if we can get out of this mess of a season with Europe and Ancelotti we are massively stronger position. Substantially stronger than 4 years ago and when all is taken into account probably as strong as we've been in about 25 years to attract players. We have a world class manager and fantastic DOF, Europe, momentum and money to spend.

I am a little confused with the back up left back comment I think this is a little naive. Even with Europe we will still probably look to take players who have flopped a bit at top clubs (I've obviously mentioned Rabiot here). Diane has been the leagues best left back for both the seasons he's been here. We could have paid an absolute fortune for Ben Chillwell who'd have been a less impressive player. We will continue to recruit from a range of sources.

In truth our best players currently are 3 Barcelona reserves, a player from Barnsley and Sheffield United and then a lad who had struggled to score for Watford. We probably need to relax a little about where we sign players from. Going and singing Swansea's or Crystal Palaces best players has really not worked out well for us.

Do you really believe that ?
If so, I don't think you are living in the real world.
Leicester had a great start to the season but that has tapered off alarmingly. In truth, they are almost completely dependent on Vardy.
Wolves are a good club and well managed, keeping their manager may be a problem for them.
Everton should be assessed from December rather than from last August.
Taking new manager, new ground, the continuing emergence of young players like DCL, Holgate, Richarlison,Davies and hopefully Kean next season then I think Everton are seen as a club on the up.

That's the thing though.

Ever since moshiri took over we have been on the up as you put it. We have been singing ambition every single year and backing that up with money as well, for example the summer of Walsh we spent a fortune. The club have been selling themselves as a club that will aim to be among the elite sooner rather than later.

What we have actually got is midtable, relegation battles , no trophies and nothing to show for our ambition. We are sacking managers left right and centre because we are struggling so any player who signs for us potentially has at least 2 managers to impress rather than one.

We have been a club that has been poorly run on the football side of things for so long that we don't matter anymore. A player doesn't see Everton of the 80s, they see a club talking about champions League and going nowhere instead.

So talking ambition means nothing when you don't back those words up. West ham have signed some big players in comparison to what they did before but you would laugh if they spoke about champions League.

We are on the same level as west ham. I have no doubt ancelotti will make a massive difference , you can see it on the pitch already. But selling ancelotti with europe after being on the bottom 3 is a far more attractive offer than ancelotti taking Everton to the same position that all the other managers finish, nowhere.

We will attract players based on ancelotti being here. That part is true , players will want to play for him

What I'm saying Is ancelotti plus European football attracts even better players. The difference is a player who will be boss in 4 years like richarlison compared to signing richarlison in those 4 years.

That's the difference though in your first paragraph. We can either sign players who will be top class in a few years or go and sign those top class players. Talking hypothetically here but would our team be better going and adding koulibaby rather than a player who can be as good as him? That's the difference in what I am saying , putting 4 players who are guaranteed to improve the team rather than signing players for the long term is going to make a huge difference for ancelotti. It may break the policy a little but the difference between the competitive club's and us is the ability to sign guaranteed improvements. We have tried to bring in players over a long term which is fine , I still want to see that happen but the team needs a massive jolt. As you agree , Europe will help with that no end. It sells potential under the manager rather than hope which is all we have currently.

I'm not saying we will sign the players the top club's are vying for, we clearly won't be in that market. But there are top players who the big club's aren't signing for whatever reason that we can attract with Europe and ancelotti.

Your assesment of this it best players is funny though , not quite the assessment I'd use. More like a young Brazilian winger with potential, kids from lower leagues that have had time to develop and an injury prone midfielder who has struggled sadly in recent years mentally. They aren't cast offs at all, well gomes was but the rest were gambles on who they could be rather than who they were. Lewen wasn't Rooney esq for example , he was a young lad who a scout saw potential in and it's took 4 years to see a glimpse of that potential.

When we went and signed Swansea / palace / villa etc best players it brought us nothing but expensive flops. No matter how good you say gueye was for example , collectively they brought a losing mentality and inferior complex which has shone through in the lack of fight under previous managers. So who we sign and where from is an important aspect. Signing digne for example was signing someone experienced at top club's only compared to chillwell who is just part of a good team. Long term we want to sign a teams best player but not when that team is fighting relegation each year, as our previous transfers prove.

It's all mentality in a player and everything to do with situation. Why is it that United suddenly can't attract top players like they used to? Nothing to do with the club's name or history, it's everything to do with where they are. A player can't say they will win things there anymore , much like us. Whereas Jose managed to sign those top players simply because he offered them champions League and trophies. The difference in Jose and ole is again clear to see and it's only 18 months apart? Players know United aren't competitive anymore until they get that champions League back.

That's where we need to be and the difference in who we can bring in. Right now we may have ancelotti and be attractive for that reason. But if we offer also mid table , no success and all the rest then what does ancelottis name count for? We may have signed some great players under brands but if they collectively don't get any further then the Swansea/villa level players then it doesn't suggest a team going places.

We have to prove we are going places first and foremost. So ancelotti and Europe within 6 months of the bottom 3, that will sell this club far more than throwing money at them and pretending to have ambition.
